    and through this thread I got my answer. I was trying to find a legit HG/SS pokemon file to try and find an example of the hidden hex values. looks like 85h is 02 for Bug Catching Contest =) shweet.

If you do, then Pokemon HGSS automatically knows to look at 46h/47h Hex Values. That way, if it gets traded to D/P/Pt, it will just say "Faraway Place" instead of the Johto location, because D/P/Pt don't read 46h/47h values.

    aw. why doesn't Platinum have it? will that affect the legality of pokemon such as Latios or Groudon that HAVE to be transferred through Pal Park? because if so I'd like to figure out how to fix it.
