Hello everyone, for years I have seen many users request someone to make starter modifier cheats for Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. I decided to take on this request and figured out how to do such a process. I now present to you a list of starter modifier codes for every version of Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

Note: I will not guarantee this list to be finalized as I may improve the codes more to prevent any sort of issues these codes may bring to their respected games. I prefer being thorough about making codes so I can ensure only the best for everyone and not some silly joke(s).

Hi, the codes work otherwise fine (playing on Platinum) but they don't change Barry's starter and no matter what, Barry always picks Turtwig (I tried modifying Turtwig to something else and then picking it, but he still chose it).

Well the codes here were only designed to change your starters, not Barry's starter. The reason why he keeps choosing Turtwig is because Barry was only coded to choose which starter to use according to the appropriate starter you chose (Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup), because his choice of starter isn't accounted for anything else other than the generation four starters, he will keep choosing Turtwig. This is exactly why in early ROM hacks that have different starter Pokemon, Barry will keep choosing the first available starter because the ROM hacker(s) didn't change Barry's code, leaving him with his default and intended fallback option.

Okay thanks for the explanation. Does this mean that Action Replay can't change Barry's pokemon at all?

I wouldn't say it's impossible, but the practicality of it seems kind of pointless. I'll look into it anyways however.

Thanks for developing these codes!

I have Pokemon Diamond (standard US version) and unfortunately not working, could you confirm whether the code is good, and thanks again!

This is the code I am using:

521D9068 00000183
021D9068 00000004
D2000000 00000000

Sorry for the late reply, I tested the code, and it worked as intended, got a Charmander.

If I want to insert a custom pokémon and choose it as a starter (i don't know if it's possible) i have to replace one of the original pokémon in the pokédex with the "custom one" and insert its code in the cheat?

Sorry for bad english or for eventual informatical nosense, i'm trying to learn about game mod.

Thank you for your time

Using diamond (USA/EU) starter codes to get 1. Dialga 2. Palkia 3. giratina, but none of them are showing up. I double checked the codes, but still receive the standard starters. Is there an activation requirement? (Edit: codes working now, must’ve clashed with one of my other codes, sorry!)

Custom-made Pokémon? Since the above code uses 3 digits to tag the Pokémon  (instead of full code) I think you’d have to use a second code to replace a dex Pokémons code with your custom Pokémon, then use that Pokémon tag here. I think that will work, but I cannot guarantee It.

Do these codes use the same base built in shiny chance that the game uses? Not sure how to read codes, so want to make sure these codes don't set the starter to be non shiny.
I'm wanting to do a mostly legitimate, non RNG manipulated, shiny starter hunt, but wanting to change Piplup to the First Starter slot instead of the far right slot, making selecting Piplup much easier.

Updated all of the codes, these new ones are much better than the ones I posted earlier.

Do these codes require a master code or something? I have tried different pokemon using Diamond and platinum versions on DraStic emulator and twilight ++ on the 3ds as well but I can't seem to make it work

Nope, they work just fine for me, tested on a few flash cartridges and TWiLightMenu.

The pictures do not change. But when you battle Barry you will have your desired starter

Hey can you explain the code to me I used this code here
Second Starter:
521D906C 00000186
021D906C 00000390
D2000000 00000000
But it appeared an unknown pokemon with no sprit, it was a rose square on my screen, would appreciate how I could do this correctly

I know this is a little old, but is there a way to do this in HeartGold/SoulSilver? I’ve been looking for a code to modify the starters in those games, but no luck.
