Research in Activating Unused Sprites Within DPPt

Basically the title spells it all.

This thread is dedicated to using RAM editing or even using Hex Editors

To allow unused Sprites to serve a purpose in the game.

Basically this thread can be considered an extended version and derivativeof here: http://projectpokemon.org/forums/showthread.php?t=1416

I decided to focus not just on Arceus, but on other unused sprites, if any known.

From what I know the currently unused pokemon sprites are as of the following:

Shellos: http://veekun.com/dex/pokemon/shellos/flavor

Gastrodon: http://veekun.com/dex/pokemon/gastrodon/flavor

??? Arceus: http://veekun.com/dex/pokemon/arceus/flavor

BETA Shaymin and Giratina: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Platinum_beta

What we do know is for Arceus to Stay in Curse (???) type,

It's ability must not be MULTITYPE or it will transform back to normal type if not equipped with the correct item.

Using the offset of 0x00000040 for HEX editor,

The value for Curse Arceus is found to be at least, 4C - 4F.

(4D is my preference though).

I'm currently trying to get the Shellos and Gastrodon,

And on Platinum (using 0x00000040=4D) Gastrodon appears weird, Shellos unsucessful.

If anyone manages to come up with any values,

Note the value under which offset, and also which game (D/P or Pt)

My Current List in mind:

Gastrodon

Shellos

Shaymin (Pt)

Beta Origin Giratina (Pt)

Curse Arceus

Cherim (Sunny 'mode' without activating Sunny Day)

Substitute?

DP sprites in Pt

Awsome i never tought of trying to find other unused sprites! I would like to help if i can in anyway like testing other values?

I think this is a good idea! ( i started the curse arceus thing ) I never tought of trying to find other sprites for other pokemon.

I wish some one tought of this a few months ago.

Yea its cool isnt it?

Anyway I managed to secure a Cherrim (sunny form),

But like Arceus, it will transform back if its ability remained the same,

So I changed the ability to Serene Grace.

(Initially wanted drought but it is kind of overkill).

Basically at 0x40 change the value to 08.

Or you can open the one I uploaded :D

EDIT: I might be mistaken about something.

Though it was in Sunny form and had Serene Grace as the ability,

It still transformed back.

I'll try by either changing the values or perhaps letting its ability be drought after all.

BUT after battle it will revert back to sunny form o.0

cool iam going to see what happens to giratina when i change its values i will report back with information any idea what value i should try? i know its most likely at 0x40

thats cool!

Anyway as seen from the wiki in the following link:

The numbers used usually are 08, 10, 18 ... etc.

It is either a Y0 or Y8, with Y being any another number from 0-F in the hexadecimal range. Its like a pattern LOL

0x0000040 i changed 04 to 18 it dosent look like it did anything in pokesav i will go ahead and try some thing else unless you know what values i should try

Basically I only managed to change the Giratina to Origin forme (0x40 = 08 I think).

However it changed back in battle.

When I tried other values the sprite (when its in the box) changed colors.

I'm afraid that the beta Giratina isn't in the game.

Well we can keep trying.

I'm not very good at HEX editing,

But basically what we do know that offset 0x40 is for formes,

and by changing the values there (ranging from 00 - FF)

May changed it to any sprites which may be programmed into the game.

So the problem is finding the correct number,

Besides the conventional 08 10 18 trend, cause ??? Arceus didn't follow that trend :/

some thing happend in pokesav when i chnaged it to 4c like curse arceus it showed the unknowe letter j instead of the normal latter a iam testing it in my rom now

ok werd the sprite in the pc you know the mini ones that show up in boxes well its red like when you pick it up when select is pressed

Yea I know what you are talking about, thats the form change thingy right.

If you put 4C for giratina I thnk it will still change to J.

Perhaps because that HEX number (4C) is like also J for Unown?

EDIT:

I just confirmed that by having a Sunny Forme Cherrim (0x40 = 08) €

Having drought will keep it as Sunny Forme even in battle,

As compared to it having Serene grace

(which it could only stay as sunny forme outside battle, with or without winning it doesn't matter)

Maybe we can toy with Castform too!

This is what we found (all at offset 0x40):

Sunny forme Cherrim -> 08

Origin Giratina -> 08

Curse Arceus -> 4C ~ 4F (may be more)

I'm expecting the Castform Forms to be at 08, 10 and 18, though I haven't try it yet.

Shaymin's Sky forme is at 08,

And if the beta frame is programmed in, I'm hoping its at 10.

And I have no idea how to get the substitute to appear.

If only we can encounter and catch it LOL

hopefully i want some bata formes oh by the way has anyone tryed tradeing on the gts with any of the curse arceus? or other hex edited pokemon?

HEY I saw the addition.

Well right now its temp 4C,

Cause we cant find anyway to keep it at Curse without an existing item.

and I messed with Castform.

When I changed it to 08 (sunny forme),

It stayed in Sunny forme in and after battle.

Even if it changed forme in battle (due to weather)

After battle it'll revert to 08.

It's pretty handy, though I'm not sure at that point was it fire type

(it says normal type by default).

Need to get it hit by a water type attack to see if its fire type.

Currently messing with 10 and 18 in hopes of getting the water and ice forme.

Yea if I'm not mistaken water forme is 10.

Now testing that whether without the weather is it the same type as its forme.

(It sounds confusing I know.)

EDIT:

Sadly, being able to change the sprite doesnt mean the type changed.

Even though I was in Sunny Forme,

Getting hit by a Water Pulse didn't cause a Super Effective.

The weather probably still needs to be in play.

EDIT 2:

Is there any way to edit it's type using HEX?

not that i know of but iam still geting me a water castform and changeing its ability to kyorgers

HAHA thats why I have a Castform with Drought!

I'm testing that if it is in Sunny forme and has Drought,

Will its type be fire?

Results from the test: It won't be.

It got hit by water pulse but didn't receive a Super Effective Hit.

We really need to be able to change it's type through HEX.

Well, at least the Castform in Sunny Forme Sprite,

When using Sunny day, will transform into Sunny Forme (which it already is),

But also be a fire type.

I know that giving it an ability like Multitype is useless,

But Color Change ain't such a bad idea!

Maybe you want to try playing with ditto?

I don't know if playing with it may land us with other sprites xD

what did you mean ?

Multitype won't work as long as it isn't given to Arceus.

As for Color Change (Kecleon's Ability).

It can be used to trick your opponents.

Like they attack your Castform with a grass attack

thinking its Water type (cause its in water forme),

Than you unleash a fire blast!

Even though there isn't a Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB),

At least its fun to trick people.

Or perhaps because you have color change,

you can practically become any type.

its just for fun really.

As long as castform stays normal type,

It is pretty pointless.

ditto? i wonder probly not but then again it can transform into all the other pokemon so it woulde be possable but there would be so many hex numbers!

I haven't had much progress as I've been doing assignments so far :/

I think the gastrodon sprites only applies in DP.

I believe that PP should have the information of the alternate and beta sprites on their page.

Plus you know in the contests the DP sprites are used instead of the Pt sprites,

Can we try to activate those sprites in the summary too?
