I don't know the exact parameters of what Obamacare covers, because I'm no good at reading complicated things, but every liberal people I have on Facebook always writes how dumb the Republican (the US party) are for not liking things that provide welfare to the poor. Now I don't understand when it was such a good idea for the government to provide really: the government's only role should be protecting people. In this modern age of democracy, no one seems to understand that, particularly Europe.

Sorry. Because I'm a biased bigoted religious guy who thinks abortion is wrong and believes that women should stop legally killing babies, I stopped watching at around 0:55. I love how they slanted everything to make it look like the women are the victims, not the babies who don't get a choice. I'm rather surprised though, the court would actually decide to not lower human population (LGBT/abortion rights/etc)...

Everyone thinks ObamaCare is appealing, but it's calling for a bigger government. The fact is, government was never supposed to be that big: they're not supposed to take care of you like that. The government's role, fundamentally, is to protect the people, not shower them with welfare. That only causes a deficit nation. How many times do these people need to get it drilled in their heads? SOCIALISM DOES NOT WORK! But what we also need are self-sustainable people and local legislatures that are ultimately responds to the head of the state.

Hideyoshi is an important figure: he completed the unification that Oda Nobunaga first started. He along with Nobunaga are considered the two great unifiers of Japan.

I also found myself to be very incompatible with their republican movement. They treat their nation's documents, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, etc... all as an expansion to the Bible. The Founding Fathers were some sort of demigods, or perhaps saints, and that the nation is infallible and that God is American. Their gospel is democracy and by God's will they are allowed to take over other lands, because other nations are heathen and must be democratised.

Korea itself has its pride as well... but they live in a false pride: their nation is already not theirs.

That period in Japanese history was one of the bloodiest. Too much enmity towards each warring clans, bloodthirsty shoguns like Hideyoshi uniting under the swords (he disarmed all peasants and created an order via sword), Portuguese merchants, and of course, persecution of Christians as with many other nations out there.

You do? Heh that's cool. Korea is the less known of the Asian giants... among Vietnam and the rest. Korea was not too important in the Western powers' eyes I guess. But to understand Korea, you must also understand China and the Sinocentric system. Sorry mate, that's how it goes. Chinese history is also quite important here (not all of it, I still don't know most of Chinese history), but the impact is too much to ignore. I'm trying to learn China right now as well. But ultimately, I know more West than East.

You know, you just might be right, but it's not that I disregard Korean culture. If I could have any way I want, I'd want my Eastern culture back over what we have now: all of it, even if it means away with Westernism. Though... I would probably have never known Christ, and that's a huge drawback.

You mean Prussian military enthusiast kind of feeling? That's the modern idea of bombastic militant nation right? ... Nah, it's fine imo. I don't mind Western culture. In fact, I love the West more than the East. It's true, but now that the West has fallen under perversions of their culture... there's no place in this world that is not ruined. The mix between West and East was pretty cool imo, especially during that brief era. It was fundamentally Eastern, but some Westernism allowed for some versatility.

Yeah I see. I'm similar: but I like to see what makes some specific people famous, and what their leader did affects the nation as a whole: so I study their actions and what they did was right or wrong as well.

It's really just the names though... but even name enough can be kind of disturbing especially for Pogeymanz game, yeah...

Guy with Fraxure, Gato Kiyomasa, was a rash commander who fought against Korea in the invasion. GRRR.

Ieyasu, the guy with Aggron, was a political opponent of Hideyoshi later on, and when Hideyoshi dies in 1598, he instigates a war against those who side with Hideyoshi's son, Hideyori. Ieyasu wins and becomes the supreme shogun. Mitsunari (Pawniard guy) was Ieyasu's opponent, and loses.

You wonder why there's a girl named Gracia (one with Munna): truth is, that's her baptised name: she became a Kirishitan (Christian). Her real name is Hosokawa Tama. Why her outfit doesn't look so Japanese though, idk. Modern gaming... mhh. She had a tragic ending due to the above factionalism <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The one with Mewtwo, Kenshin, was a scary daimyo of the Sengoku period. That Mewtwo really fits the guy: he was often compared to Bishamonten, a Buddhist god of war. But... the man wasn't cruel like most of the other warlords: he seems to have taken care of his fiefdom quite well. Mitsuhide, the one depicted with a Lapras or Articuno, is the one who leads to Obunaga's death: yes, he betrays his master. Asides from the fact he runs Pokemon I like... I find the guy cool. Well, if I were Japanese, it probably would be a different story, you know? The man with the Gurdurr, Yoshihiro... I don't know him so well, but he was present during the conquest of Korea, and defeated Won Gyun in Chilcheollnyang in 1597... so he had quite the presence then too. ><img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Ranmaru (Dragonair guy) was Nobunaga's attendant, and perhaps gay lover. 16.

Pokemon Conquest is rich with historical characters. I'm going to start taking notes on this: I know SOME of them... and of course, some of the characters actually invaded Korea during 1592-1598 (Hideyoshi being the instigator), so needless to say, I won't like some of the characters, though this took place BEFORE the actual invasion, but was more about the unification of the Japanese islands.

Of course, Nobunaga (the title character) did not complete the unification, but his successor, Hideyoshi, did. Oichi, the girl with the Jigglypuff, is his sister. No-hime (Mismagius lady), Hime means Princess... she's the wife of Nobunaga.

Hideyoshi, his successor, is the one with the Monferno (he was always depicted as monkey-like figure). Nene (the one clad in golden panties with a Golbat), becomes Hideyoshi's wife. Though... she was not too favoured by Hideyoshi because she did not give any children, so Hideyoshi had to go with concubines. I'll talk more about Hideyoshi later.

 17.

"What I've noticed is that the history stuff I'm into is usually the people or a culture, not specific people."

Dunno what you mean by that. You mean general people and their culture, not the specific ones, right? Korea is quite unique in many ways. They actually have the best archery skills of all Asia, and perhaps the world. They are creative people, but the problem is they had no idea how to deal with foreign influences. Many of them pursued an isolationist policy, especially because nations like Japan or the Manchus tried invading the nation. The Manchus succeeded of course because of terrible king Injo's fault (Gwanghaegun had a better separate peace tactic which would have held them off...), resulting into a suzerain relationship with Qing, and breaking off with Ming. Yeah, we're no good at foreign relations I believe <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/wacko.png" alt=":S" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/wacko@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

The Triple Entente of Britain-France-Russia also meant WWI was inevitable against Germany... though they betrayed Russia in the end too.

Yes, he was easily manipulated and quite weak, but when his beloved wife was murdered and the Empire was formed, he began pulling his weight and showed he could be somewhat capable, but by that time, his allies Russia and Qing China were defeated by the Japanese, and were growing too powerful. Therefore it was too late.

Yeah I like Empress Myeongseong. She's slightly like the Marie Antoinette of Korea... kind of, and a loose comparison at best. She was ousted once by Daewongun's forces, but was later reinstated (during a revolt in 1881-82?). She's considered a tragic heroine in Korea these days.

A German actually made the Korean Empire National Anthem (along with the Japanese one). Kaiser Wilhelm II referred to Gojong as Kaiser (meaning Emperor), not koeing (king), so he recognised the Korean independence. More bonus points for him.

We had a dark history after 1910... and even now, I wonder what future lies ahead for Korea... if we even have a future. I hate to think of it this way, but it just seems nearly impossible for anything to come back. Joseon Dynasty certainly wasn't perfect (I could do without the super Confucian state or the Sinocentric tribute we gave to China), but it was Korea and what Korea is supposed to be. Even the compromise b/w Western and Eastern culture during that short Korean Empire period (1897-1910) would have worked. But nowadays, I don't even know what Korea is supposed to be... where is it going? In the north it's a total hell on earth, and in the south we have idiocy and an ineffective style of elitist living, even if it is a veritable paradise compared to north... I don't think I can love a nation such as this.

Why Gojong is up there... I suppose in a way, I think he's the last symbol of what a united Korea ever was...

Yeah sorry I'll stop now.

That being said, Korea was freed from Japanese control in 1945 (end of WWII). Japan tried to assimilate Koreans into Japanese culture, so we were not allowed the Korean tradition, nor Korean names, nor anything of that kind. It was absolute nightmare on how Japanese treated us. And the evil western powers cheered for this sabotage! Though, the Kaiser Wilhelm II and Tsar Nicholas II opposed this, but look where they ended up after WWI <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Without a stabilising monarch though, Korea lost unification and all sorts of things that were needed to avert the Korean War. The South Korean president (who was educated in America and backed by American forces) disallowed the Korean royals to return. His name is Syngman Rhee (why is it spelled that way idk... it should be Seung-mon in pronounciation).

 23.

Japan actually openly tried to assassinate or remove the power of the Emperor Gojong in many ways, and even put opium in his coffee (Gojong loved coffee). He spat it out immediately, but his Crown Prince Sunjong took the rest and developed some impairments afterwards. Gojong was forced to abdicate in 1907, so no, he was not the last Emperor of Korea. His son Sunjong became the Emperor (though really powerless) until 1910, when Japan took Korea. Gojong died in 1919 mysteriously (there we go again), most suspecting it to be Japanese poisoning. And nowadays, he has a reputation of being a weak, lazy and powerless king. I don't think so actually: he didn't start off very powerful, but in the end, he did try a lot to assert Korean independence. He may have been weak, perhaps, but certainly not lazy. It's the republican propaganda that really brought him down, I think, and it's rather sad.

 24.

And surprisingly, the Russians LOST the war, now forcing Korea into a bigger power struggle against Japan, who was slowly gaining power. The Russian Tsar Nicholas II (another good man who would lose his throne and family TRAGICALLY) invited Gojong to send his delegates to the Hague Convention in 1905 secretly to assert Korean independence (Nicholas was a friend too)... but none of the other European powers like Britain or France would even recognise Korea as an independent nation and that they're Japanese colony now. Crushed and hopeless, Japan would finally annex Korea once and for all through the Eulma Treaty in 22 August, 1910, thus Korea becoming a Japanese colony.

(... to be continued)

 25.

Now Gojong had the reputation of being a dumb king who did nothing but let Korea rot under Japanese control. Actually, the opposite was true: he continued his wife's legacy and tried to modernise Korea (he nearly succeeded in getting a lot of modernisation, look up Korean Empire in Google or something and you'll see how different Korea started to look) and even dressed in Prussian uniform (yeah he likes Germany). In fact, he was friends with the German Kaiser Wilhelm II, as many letters were actually sent back and forth between the two (you wouldn't believe it now would you?) He helped develop Korea into a growing nation, and had the Russians train the Korean military, but... that time came in 1904 when Russia and Japan went to war against each other...
