Right, but I was wondering if there is some completely different method (i.e. not browser injection)

Wanting to get into competitive play but apparently since I've updated my 3DS (not new) within the last month, browser injection won't work. I've been trying to find an alternative method but I've failed to do so. I am not the best with computers and such. Are those of us who've updated just left out or is there some other way to not have to spend hours upon hours of breeding? Thanks.
