  1. Is there a list of all the new Shadow Pokémon? This hack makes me wonder why no one else has ever tried hacking xD before, is it that hard to even change the Shadow Pokémon?

Not at this moment since I updated the shadow pokemon and I'm planning to make a few more minor changes. I'll make an updated one soon though.

I looked around to see what I could find before I started hacking xD and it looks like some people did try a long time ago but gave up. It seems more like they were hoping someone else had made a start though. It did take me a long time to get started. I didn't find anything at all for about 6 months, especially because I wasn't particularly experienced at this kind of stuff. Most of the skills I used to hack the game were things I learned along the way. I was really close to giving up a few times but I'm glad I stuck with it. None of it is very difficult but it's just time consuming which is why we make hack tools to simplify the process.

  2. Hi, this is probably out of your options but it would be interesting if you could change/modify the protagonist.

I liked xD and its improvements over Colosseum alot but the protagonists design is kinda a downgrade from Colosseum.

Other than that, I'm waiting for 1.0 to give this hack a try!

It's something I've looked into a lot but it's not something I can do right now. The file format is completely unknown. Maybe one day someone will figure out how the data works but it's well beyond me.

  3. How does the game choose atk vs special atk for moves?

It's based on what they are in the actual games. Most of them should be obvious even the moves like shadow moves which aren't in other games. The tricky one is sacred fire which is physical despite it's appearance.

  4. Would someone be willing to randomize a patch of the game for me and then send it to me?

I want the Trainer Pokemon and gift Pokemon randomized and trade evolutions to be removed. Also, if doable, make the starters a female level 24 Gyarados nicknamed Em and a male level 26 Charmeleon nicknamed David, or as close to that as possible!

    Thank you in advance!

Working on it. Can't do nicknames though. You can change their nickname at the name rater when you get there. Also the starters are gender locked as male.

Edit: Here you go - Randomiser patch

  5. After completing my second playthrough, I can safely express my opinion on the changes you've made without thinking I missed something.

I love the fairy type addition along with the type effectiveness update. Makes me feel more at home coming from ORAS to this. I didn't mind that some pokemon were given fairy type since without the additions you made, the only canonical fairies are few and far between.

The learnsets of pokemon in general feels a tad unbalanced, but since the last patch, it's less overwhelming. Now the TM's were actually incredibly helpful this time around. My first playthrough rarely saw me using TM's as the level moves were just so much better.

The shadow pokemon felt really well thought out. ie; Stone evos in Phenac. and 100 Shadow pokemon seems perfect. It's a nice even number and gives you access to anything you'd want without too much exclusion (plus every legendary, yay). I feel like Mirror B. was a tad difficult though the last time you face him. His Shadow Ho-oh on top of his rain team was absolutely savage. But since it's the last shadow mon, i appreciated the challenge. Oh, and Bonsly was the cherry on top. Nothing like playing a gen 3 game with a gen 4 mon

The Text changes were good. The ones you did change anyway. Lovrina/Sylvia cracked me up. #SavageAF

And finally, the post-game. Mt. Battle was a slog as it usually is, but the Type themed sections kept it fresh until the end. Completing it 3 times was definitely a trial, but I had to get each and every reward that was offered. Orre Colosseum was admittedly something I didn't dabble in as often as most. I played through it a few times to reface the admins but that was about it.

Overall, The changes made really enhance the game as a whole. I enjoyed every bit of both of my playthroughs. I look forward to what you do next so i can maybe do a third

    I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah the learnsets were pretty OP at first mainly because I wanted all the pokemon to be viable but TMs were hard to come by and single use only. Now that I've unravelled the game files a little more, I was able to make them more readily available and will be doing more on the TM distribution as I'm pretty sure some of my info on their locations was slightly erroneous.

It's been great to get so much feedback from people on various forums, twitch, youtube etc. I have played through and watched others play through XG countless times now and I've been taking things on board and improving the game. I too am really pleased with how the game has evolved.

I have a few other things planned although nothing too big is left. The important ones are battle bingo and battle CDs at this point.

Thanks for the advice. There were also some text errors in Mt battle. Like one guy talked about his cyndaquil but didn't have one.

Yeah I'm aware of those but it's such a tedious process so I've left a lot of the text for now. It will be updated eventually but it's just low priority right now.

  6. I remember playing a demo of xD at Shopko a long time ago that took place at the Cipher Key Lair. You had like a couple of Ultra Balls and I think a few Net Balls or so, and your pokemon were Parasect and Gardevoir (may have been another psychic type, but not sure) both at level 40.

You couldn't leave the area, but I think an NPC (I think it was Professor Krane) explained to you how to catch shadow pokemon (using Spore with Parasect for example) and the first one you encountered was a shadow Shellder. When you entered the lab you encountered a peon with a shadow Butterfree and Tangela (might've been an additional peon with no shadow pokemon, but I don't remember). The demo ended after you snagged all 3 and talked to the NPC.

This was before I knew what E3 was.

That sounds really cool. I wonder if I'd be able to find any details about it online somewhere...

  7. Was pretty much just rattling off the Pokemon that make sense in the desert, heh.

Claydol would pretty much be stuck running screens, due to the game's Double Battle preference, unless you wanted to run like a Calm Mind set without recovery options.

Can't really think of any moves that would really make sense for Claydol.

Ah fair enough and yeah it can only really play a screens role which it can't do too well. Just based on my philosophies for the game I wouldn't take something out or put something in just for the sake of having another pokemon. As much as some people are disappointed by the duplicates (only 2 duplicates now btw) I do feel that the duplicates deserve that place more than anything else would.

  8. The names Fixedys, and i'm just an average Pokemon fan! Heard of this site, and thought to sign up!

Hello there. Welcome to project pokemon :)

  9. Can confirm that Dusclops isn't available in the game, from the 100% file I only see Banette, Sableye and Gengar.

If there comes a time where the Shadows are shuffled again, I would suggest trying to fit Dusclops in if you can, as it's a really solid support-type Pokemon.

Also one other thing I remembered, I would say change Larvitar in the Rock Poke Spot to something else, due to Tyranitar being a thing later.

My original idea is Diglett, since Arena Trap can actually be used against the AI now that it switches in certain circumstances, though it's really kinda subpar. My other thought was Onix/Steelix, but they're both really situational, like Blissey was.

Maybe even Baltoy, since Claydol is another fairly sturdy Pokemon, though it does have an issue with it's evolution level.

Yeah I noticed later on but forgot to mention it. Duskull was there in the original version but I guess I took it out at some point and forgot that I did. I actually really liked having duskull, especially since there are so few ghost pokemon so I might have actually taken it out as an accident, which would also explain why I don't remember removing it.

These are my thoughts on the inclusion of the pokemon you mentioned:

    Dugtrio

Dugtrio was really close to being in the game but got cut because I felt dugtrio is too frail and too weak to be of any use in double battles, especially with it's main move, earthquake, being weakened by spread move mechanics. It won't even get a chance to attack against anything that's faster than it which is a problem since rain and sun teams are very common. It can't take a surf even with spread damage. There are also a lot of priority moves. It doesn't at least have access to a focus sash, only focus bands in XG. It will struggle against shadow pokemon especially since shadow boost makes them even bulkier and the shadow moves will destroy dugtrio.

The opponent only switches out -4 pokemon so the trapping role is still really uncommon.

    Steelix

Steelix is outclassed by other bulky steel types and doesn't do anything special or quirky, nor is it especially popular. It's movepool is very underwhelming. It isn't a support pokemon or anything like that. It's moves are geared more towards offense even though it's offsensive stats aren't great and it doesn't have access to heavy slam or gyro ball in XG. It is also extremely weak to both rain and sun teams which are common in XG. I don't think it's totally unusable but I'm not sure I'd take something else out for steelix.

    Claydol

Claydol I could consider. TBH I've never been much of a Claydol fan and my personal biases meant it wasn't given much consideration. Thinking about it now, I don't think it's that popular and it has a lot of weaknesses like dark and water (rain teams again) which are very common in XG especially. There are a lot of ground types and far too many psychic types already. I don't think it would see very much usage, and those who tried would probably be disappointed.

If you can suggest some movesets that would make it viable or at least that might tempt players into considering it for their teams then I'll put it in. The moves don't necessarily need to be officially learned moves as long as they make a little sense for a Claydol.

Duskull/Dusclops is definitely going back in. Claydol I'll consider but only if there's something I'm willing to remove for it.

    as for larvitar

Larvitar is there so you don't have to wait until the end to get ttar; you can have one before you even reach citadark isle. Tyranitar is very popular and very powerful so larvitar is one of the highest priorities to be available early game like bagon and beldum. The focus then shifts to the ttar at the end. Maybe I'm being stubborn but imo the final boss should definitely have a shadow tyranitar, regardless of which other pokemon may or may not be in the game. If I really, desperately wanted to put something else in then I'd consider removing it but all the important pokemon are already in.

p.s. this took me an hour to write xD

  10. I saw where to change the evolution stuff, I just don't know what to change it to is all. That should be the last thing.

In part one of the tutorial there is a link to a .rar file called "pokemon reference data". It contains a few files that detail these values. It includes a file called "common values which has the values for each of the evolution methods. It also has a list of the pokemon IDs and items. Let me know if you still can't figure it out. I don't mind :)

There was a demo version of the game with these two? I could've sworn there was (and I played) a demo where you had a Parasect and Gardevoir(?) (might've been a Tangela, don't remember).

Well from what I've read online I've seen jolteon and vaporeon being mentioned but never heard of any demo with the pokemon you mentioned. The demo I speak of was apparently the one from E3 back in 2005 iirc and the code for them is still in game but no sign of the ones you mentioned. Maybe you're remembering one of the teams from the "quick battle" mode of xD? Of course it could have been a different demo though. Do you remember where you played it? It sounds interesting.

  11. Is there at least a way to edit how a Pokemon evolves? I might be able to set it so Skitty evolves by level up or by a Fire Stone or something. I'm playing through it on my Wii and don't have tools like Action Replay available.

It's all detailed in later parts of this tutorial if you follow the links. It just requires some fiddly processes is all.

I could make a patch for you if you'd like? It will be really quick if it's just to mod a few specific things. It's 4am here so I'm heading to bed now but let me know and I'll see what I can cook up when I wake up.

  12. Without spoilers, what kind of changes did you make to shadow Pokemon in the new update? Not sure what "balanced" means in the change log. do you mean like Pokemon with diff types?

BTW great so far. Some bugs:

Getting a huge lag on pain split

Fake out briefly brings up a blue rectangle on the right side of the screen

Whenever I go to purify chamber from PC, it lags, has screen glitches, and sometimes crashes

Note that I'm playing with 2x res so that might cause problems.

All of those glithces are from your emulator. Dolphin 5.0 just dropped, you can try that out. Running it on a wii or wii u is flawless though so you should try that if you have one available. It's not too hard to set up.

The balancing is stuff like decreasing/increasing levels, buffing/nerfing their movesets. The purification times for a lot of them have been edited and I think I tweaked a few of the catch rates. Basically, one of the biggest aims of the game is to make all pokemon good enough to use and to encourage the player to try out different mons. The changes aren't anything too drastic though.

  13. This should be the last thing for a while, but is there a way to edit the items attached to gift Pokemon? I forgot that there are no Moon Stones in the game and I want to be able to evolve Skitty, so I was thinking of putting the Moon Stone on the Shadow Togepi that you are given.

Not that I know of. There are a few alternative options but I think the easiest would probably be to use an AR code to put one in your bag or something.

  14. Okay, that makes sense. Thank you! Delcatty and Dusclops were my favorite Pokemon from the first time I played that game, which was my first Pokemon game. I have fond memories of that, so I wanted to do a run where I started with them.

I loved colosseum and xD. Such great games. There is a shadow mewtwo in pokken though which is very similar to the concept of shadow Pokemon in xD. I hope they're hinting at a sequel but it's been so long that it's unlikely ?

  15. Well I just tried it out, and I tried replacing the Vaporeon/Jolteon thing with Skitty/Duskull and accidentally got Shiftry/Mawile. The moves, levels, and experience gained are all 100% correct, but for whatever reason the Pokemon species are all wrong. I put Skitty's species as 012C (300) and Duskull's as 0163 (355), so I don't really know what I fucked up.

Oh of course, maybe I should have mentioned. In Gen III the pokedex order in the game files is completely different to what you actually see in game. 1-251 are as expected. Then there are 25 empty slots. Then treeko is 277 (I think 0x115 in hex). However the ordering of the hoenn pokemon is also jumbled a little. Use this list Bulbapedia's List of Pokémon by index number (Generation III)

  16. I'm not sure how possible this is, but is it possible to make the massage animation shorter? I find Vivid Scents to be the most effective way to purify weaker pokemon since one scent can drop almost a bar. But the animation takes so long with all the menus as well. So is it possible to even just cut the controller vibration?

It's not something I've looked at and there isn't any immediately obvious way to change it. Actually, thinking about it I have just one lead. I'll give it a look right now but if it's a dead end then I doubt I'll be able to figure it out. We'll see.

Edit: No dice. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to do that. I'll keep it in mind though because it is a good idea.
