Indeed... Mandibuzz is an example of that too.. Good stats and lots of moves, but little space. Muk suffers from that obviously...

A pokemon that I know of that doesn't suffer from that would be Durant. Hone claws/Iron Head/Rockslide or Stone Edge/X-scissor is brutal sweepage. But if you have a steel type, well, it's completely walled. Good thing durant's don't explode at pure random... And good thing explosion isn't a fire type move.

Hippowdon is pretty guuut... It's a physical sponge, dishes out damage, reliable recovery, stealth rocks, the good stuff. Only problem I have with it is the sandstorm affects my wall, Umbreon, but I digress... I'll just live with it, I always change my main teams around so much it makes me go nuts.

Sorry for the late reply.

Yeah, Eelektross is good but needs a lot of support to pull off properly. Some pokes such as Durant require little support but can be very deadly. As for Samurott, it needs more versatility. Thing is though, they can simply not have the option of teaching Conkeldurr Close Combat (which wouldn't be entirely good anyway, it'd lesser it's bulk). Emboar could use it to an extent, but I'd prefer it learning drain punch.

And the thing about Durant was a joke. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/laugh.png" alt="xD" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/laugh@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I'm well aware. Umbreon against Espeon is unfair, and one's meant to be a special offensive, the other a wall. I know it was an example, but meh...

And pokemon with no defined roles bug me. >.< Sort of like Eelektross...

Hmm... Can't remember off the bat, but I know that one of my brothers is the dog or goat... My eldest sister is the dragon, my mom is a horse I believe (ironic, she is in love with Horses) and so on... I'd have to look into that.

I hope the next pokemon game introduces move tutors, and hopefully Durant will learn explode, Samurott will learn close combat, and Emboar will learn drain punch! Hopefully movepools get better. I know it'll happen, but Conkeldurr will get the elemental punches. It shouldn't, but it will. I despise that thing so much... But you know that already.

I suppose... Could see who would win, but that depends. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

And... That's.... Odd. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" /> But it is the zodiac, it's not like we're enemies because of birth dates. At least I hope not.

I still hold grudges against it... Sure, it may not be too versatile or remarkable, but still, it's stats are still pretty good. If it were more versatile, it would probably be used more (stone edge + earthquake + close combat). Speaking of which, why can't it learn that? And I find it's like that with all the starters, not just Samurott. Emboar started to get pretty stale once I was able to get past the 6th gym... Yes, he murked the Ice gym, but that's understandable. In the battle with N, he didn't do a darn thing. Well, he killed Zoroark by mistake, but meh...

Still, I don't think Samurott is "bad". it's just not... Swampert. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Heh, sorry 'bout that. I might try it competitively, but I don't expect it to totally destroy everything. I personally felt that Tepig was great in the beginning, but with the introduction of stronger pokemon like wuffalot (forgot it's name, the normal dog). And to be frank; it's hard to admit, but I like Emboar the most out of the three fire/fighting in terms of appearance and personality. Also, it suits me the most, because according to the Chinese Zodiac, I'm a pig! <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/biggrin.png" alt=":D" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Comparing Emboar to the other fire/fighting starters is like comparing... I don't know, two great pokemon with one not so great.

I honestly think that Samurott has the best placement of stats. 95/100/85/108/70/70. Respectable bulk, combined with good offensive stats and a fine movepool. For the story, I didn't use it, but I imagine that it doesn't have a whole lot of trouble. Competitively it's under estimated... SD +2 with Torrent and Aqua Jet HURTS. Also, it's got megahorn and air slash.

-

In game, Emboar's not bad... in Competitive it's outclassed by the other starters IMO. Yes, it has a higher attack stat and more bulk than the other two, but the 65/65 defences are a letdown, and that 100 base special attack is outclassed again. Also, it has access to cool moves such as Wild Charge and Scald, but it's still somewhat frail and on top of that, slow. Still, Bulk up and Flame Charge would be interesting... Shame about the lack of Drain Punch.

Yes... It fits your playstyle, but even despite, 75 HP combined with 95/95 isn't great, especially with so many weaknesses. I never said it sucked, but I'm still annoyed about it's stats.

My sister LOVES Drifblim. It sometimes scares me how much she does. (half sarcasm)

Indeed. Gamefreak trolls quite often. Oh, Conkeldurr has drain punch and 140 base attack?! I hate that thing so much. Oh, Throh wants it? WELL TOO BAD. Oh, Escavalier learning at least rock slide/bulldoze (at least)? No, that'd be overpowered. Gamefreak, at least TRY to make pokemon fair. In fact, I'm real curious how the starters next gen turn out.

Speaking of which, although I like Serperior, I was rather disappointed by it's stats. It's one of those cool but hard to use pokemon, like Flareon and Luxray. Emboar should've had good physical defence at least, not special attack. Alas, I don't think we'll ever get a bulky fire type starter. I chose Tepig simply because I kind of like Emboar. But my friend chose the exact same thing as me. Since I'm his "teacher" (he once called me that or something) he follows my example a little. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sad.png" alt=":(" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Erm, I don't have a problem with Shuppet. Banette is pretty awesome looking, but is meh competitively.

Yes, Torterra is pretty awesome and all, but they all bragged saying it would win one on one with everything. Perhaps a physical Infernape, but a mixed Infernape would eradicate it, unless said otherwise. I wasn't really talking about what moves or progression in game, I was talking about who could beat who, because that's what they all said. But, I didn't point that out, so it's not your fault. And Empoleon is probably my favourite, shame it's movepool is meh. In light of that, it still turned out as an OU in competitive.

For aesthetics though, I still picked Venusaur. Still, that thing body slamming someone.... would not only look painful but silly.

Here's my order: Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Mudkip, Piplup, Tepig. (Would've chose Snivy but my friend trolled because we would've chose different starters, but he chose what I used)

-

Indeed. I'll get to that.

Yeah. When I see a ghost type though, I don't really want it to be cute... I want it to be "ghostly" because that's what it represents. As for bug and grass, I just end up liking them a lot. I don't really dislike any type, but if I had to choose my least favourite types, it would be normal and fighting. They're just... plain to me... But that's not to say I don't like pokemon in that category.

Yeah. As far as first gen goes, Venusaur was my preferred starter. my friends always told me "no, it sucks don't use it" but turns out he was incredible. With gen 2, I chose chikorita, which was the same issue. I remember how everyone was ranting at my school with gen 4 that Torterra was the best starter, but when I thought about it, I was like... wut? What are your favourite starters, if any, or ones you just ended up choosing more?

-

Yeah... I guess asking for tips might just make you more confused or something. So I'll just see what works i guess. Hippowdon so far is working, though. yes, sandstorm can work... but Vormund won't like it. :l

I'm sort of the same. I generally say what type is a favourite if I like a lot of pokemon in that category, or if I just simply like the type. For instance, I like nature and plants, so I like Grass. I like bug because I like a lot of bug pokemon... I'm weird like that. But surprisingly enough, although desert themed stuff catches my attention, there are not many ground types I love.

And... I've committed treason, I know. I don't like Charizard. Reason? Well, I don't DISLIKE it, but I never really been attached to it. I guess it's the design... Simple European dragon. I don't know really. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I do have this thing though where I have a general way of viewing a type... e.g, Psychics are otherwordly.

-

I suppose so. But in some cases, not so much. Alakazam has magic guard and a sash (just cause), and in my most recent match he was able to set up even despite all the weather shoved in his face. He barely survived a body slam from Snorelax, lol. (5% left). If it were not for Magic Guard, well, huh. Wouldn't have ended well.

Durant doesn't mind it at all, so he's fine. Throh will probably get irritated by it, because he's supposed to block attackers and stuff... I may give him a leftovers. But then I have three pokemon with that... He's pretty much the only concern I have when I use Hippo.

yeah, I never was too fond of fire types, more of the grass, bug and flying kind of guy. (Hey, it's a triangle!) if you're wondering, those are my favourite types. I've always been attached to flying in particular. But back on track, yeah. Fire types I love consist of Volcarona, Flareon, Arcanine, 3rd-4th fire starters, and Ninetales, but the rest are sort of meh to me...

-

Yeah, sorry about that. It's weird and not totally logical, but I like to try new things once in a while. That's why my UU team is having so many drastic changes.

I'm battling for one more slot actually, with the team so far:

Throh - Bulky fighter, too awesome to remove

Durant - It's durant. it kills everything

Honchkrow - very reliable for some reason...

Alakazam - sweeps everything in UU. I don't plan on removing it.

Umbreon - Good cleric/wall.

Hippowdon/Rhyperior/Marowak up for debate... Yes, Hippowdon induces weather that can hurt my team, but Durant doesn't mind it... but he sets up rocks and is a physical sponge. He can heal himself, which is appealing to me.

And I do like Arcanine. But I what I mean is that I don't like the majority of the fire types.

-

Don't get me wrong, I do like Donphan. In fact, it only DID reach my favourite ground type. But I r strange person, and I want to try something different. Since it is blasphemy that Hippowdon is UU, I'll try that. Besides, the female looks awesome. I remember using Rhyperior before and it is pretty good, but I'm doing a lot of testing. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

It's also not the fact I don't like Arcanine; but when I said I dislike fire types I meant a lot of them are meh... (looking at you DARMANITAN. ><img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" /> )

-

Yeah, yeah, my reasoning is weird. I want to use something different though because I used Donphan so much in the past (in gen 4). You know, I might try Hippwdon or Rhyperior (again). I'm also surprised I don't like too many fire types... Arcanine is there too, but meh.

Steels I'm "afraid" of are typically stuff like Registeel... Metagross too, but metagross not as much. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

One thing I find funny is that my Throh set is the most used set ever on pokemon online. I guess not a lot of people like him.

He could win any bulk up war though. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

-

Yeah, Marowak is good, it hits REAL hard, but my problem is that I need something that can take hits and that can hit steels. I got throh, and I refuse to use Donphan or Hippowdon. Why? Donphan because it's the most common pokemon in UU, and Hippowdon because it induces weather I don't need. Any suggestions? Doesn't really matter what though...

The best move to use for Throh if you're all about the pain train is revenge. Since he's got STAB, the base power is 90, and since he's slow and will move last a lot, it'll be bumped up to 180. Yeah... And if it's super effective... Good luck surviving it.

-

Yeah... Now I'm testing Marowak. His attack is through the roof. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Storm throw's power is actually at 120... But that's because it always crits. Yeah, it doesn't have OHKO beastly power but what it does have is reliable damage that ignores buffs. Also, unless the opponent has battle armor or Lucky chant, it will always have 120 base power.

Eelektross is still tough to use despite that it has no weaknesses. Hard to switch in because of lack of resistances, unlike Spiritomb or whatnot. And getting coiled up is another difficulty because of Dusclops trolling around.

-

That's why it's kind of meh. However, Alakazam is still a huge powerhouse, and I liek. It's sort of the ideal psychic pokemon to me... Quirky but cool.

And... for bulk up wars, that used to happen, but Throh doesn't let it happen. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/biggrin.png" alt=":D" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Eelektross needs support to do well, I find. If invested in HP and stuff, it can certainly leave a dent in things and deal really good damage. Yes, it's speed is a let down, but a mixed special attacker with Coil/Zap Cannon/Brick Break (Steels/Rock)/Dragon Tail is good, but VERY hard to use. I did take out three pokemon and really slow down a dude's team with it though.

-

After a calm mind it OHKOed a 67% slaking (which isn't godlike) but took two hits to take down a defensive dewgong. You could probably just say that I am REALLY paranoid about it missing. Sometimes it costs games. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sad.png" alt=":(" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I remember losing a game because a guy used discharge and my Alakazam got paralyzed and everything went haywire. Psyshock destroys Chansey/Blissey, but a lot of things won't be taken too much by it.

But what is certainly fun (most of the time) is Coil Eelektross with Zap Cannon. ><img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue.png" alt=":P" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

-

While HP fighting may lower speed and some other stats a little and doesn't pack a huge punch, so far, it's come in handy. I may choose Psychic for UU though, because... Psyshock just doesn't get the job done in that tier. And befoi you ask, yes, it's entered my UU team and has done jolly well so far.

-

I see... Didn't expect that.

Alakazam now has been nerfed hardcore due to the physical/special split as well as the crit mechanic, as well as due to the monstrous priority pokes such as Scizor. If you use Psyshock which counters Blissey and stuff, it is a severe downfall as well because hitting Conkeldurr is much more difficult. And I use hidden power fighting instead of Focus blast... More reliable. Weaker, but calm mind can do something about that.

-

That.... Was pretty awesome. Good point. And this was a dictator?

Or... Do you have an issue with it? (Don't know how you could but meh)

Alakazam isn't bad... It's that is' good. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/biggrin.png" alt=":D" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

-

Okay, I can understand payback resulting in a OHKO, but... now that is just stupid. Ridiculous. This... Is... RIDICULOUSS!!!

But anyway, erm, yeah, that's as you would say, AIDS.

By the way, if you are available, we can do battlin' and chatting on pokemon online this weekend. Why? Cuz.

And.... Alakazam... is pretty nasteh.

-

Oh right... I'm always used to Throh using it. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/laugh.png" alt="xD" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/laugh@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yeah, but even despite, Chandelure has higher defence nonetheless and the same HP. In fact, it doesn't even matter much. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I guess that Umbreon just said, "hey Mismagius, I don't like you." KO.

-

Yeah, but here's my question...

How is payback at 300 base power?

You must've made a tempo. <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure.png" alt=":/" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/unsure@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Reasons:

Base power 50

After opponent - 100

Super effective - 200.

Chandelure just has higher bulk than Mismagius (minus sp. def) and I managed to OHKO Mienshao (partially crippled due to rocks) with Alomomola's waterfall.

-

Perhaps.... but even despite a "bulky" mismagius, it would've be OKHOed due to low defence. I don't know all the details. But if I had a steelix use Earthquake and NOT kill Chandelure, how could Umbreon?

And having trouble choosing pogeymanz for a team is really annoying. >.<
