  1. As Crystal is (unofficially) supported, I presume it would likely see save data from correctly created user created versions of Crystal.

With that in mind I wonder if a Celebi caught with the GS ball event patched in to a user crated Crystal would import? If so that might give some indication the event will either be unlocked by default, or released at some point for the VC Crystal.

  2. Hey and welcome!

Its always great to find people who have grown up with Pokemon and are still interested in it years later.

I don't see gender, religion or sexuality as an issue in general, what ever people believe in or identify as is fine by me. We're all here because we love Pokemon, so you will fit right in! :)

  3. I've just got an email saying my copies of Ultra Sun and Moon will be delivered this afternoon, perfect timing for when I finish work for the weekend.

As i've played though both the original Sun and Moon games i've been trying to put a team together consisting of Pokemon i've never used in a team before.

My planned team at the moment is as follows: https://richi3f.github.io/pokemon-team-planner/national_dex.html#marshadow+celebi+magearna+milotic+turtonator+zygarde

    • Mount Tensei Marshadow
    • Ilex Forest Celebi
    • QR Code Magearna
    • Milotic (Feebas Egg with a Prism Scale ready to trade)
    • Turtonator (Egg)
    • Zygarde (Have one i'm ready to reassemble)

I wanted Marshadow in my team when I first played though of Moon, so it will be nice to finally have one to use throughout the story. Having just finished Silver on the VC the Ilex Forest Celebi I got for purchasing that will be a nice throwback to GEN 2. The Milotic, Turtonator and Zygarde are just Pokemon i'd like to use in an effort to make a balanced team.

I'm not too keen with 3 Pokemon been from events, as I would like to train them up myself. They also won't be much use for the first two islands due to their level, however that should make it a lot less time consuming to get the other 3 Pokemon up to similar levels. For the other half of the game and post game they should be useful. As it's my 3rd play though of GEN 7 at this point i'm not too bothered.

From what i've read from people playing leaked copies, all the interesting stuff is post game anyway.

Who have you got on your team this time?

You know what I wish that gamefreak did, that they probably didn't, butwould make them smarter and avoid spoiling the whole game with datamining? I wish that they hid stuff like new alola forms, new Z crystals, and stuff for event only thingsin folders that if a data miner tried to access would either given them false data or delete itself, don't get me wrong, I love this datamine forum, but it would add more mystery to the game, you know what I mean?

You might get your wish with the next Pokemon games on the Switch, depending how badly the Switch is hacked by the time it's released.

When users have full control over the system, like with the 3DS their's nothing much you can do.

  5. I'm still really mixed about Ultra Sun and Moon to be honest. It's good that Sun / Moon tried something new and I like the whole island / tribal feel to the game. I just think the implementation of the idea could have been a lot better.

A lot of things were done which I feel added no value to the game, such as the rotom dex. That to me just seemed a bit childish.

That brings me on to the next thing, the whole bottom screen generally felt wasted a lot of the time. In the GEN 6 games I always had the PSS system active there and it was nice to see when certain friends came online and see trainers from other countries passing, randomly getting invited to battle / trade as I progressed though the game, using the O-Powers and so on.

The lack of a national dex was a disappointment to me, I’ve had little incentive to bring my living Pokedex from GEN 6 across.

I think for me if we get something like the PSS back, National Dex and a better story now Lilly is a proper Pokemon trainer and a lot of new areas to explore it could turn out to be a good game.

What would be really nice is if we can catch legendries which have only ever been event only, such as Volcanion and Marshadow for example. I’ve pretty much managed to complete my living Pokedex with myself as the OT for every Pokemon, except event only Pokemon and Xerneas. Xerneas been catchable would be nice as it would mean I don’t need to play most of Pokemon X at some point for one Pokemon, although I really enjoyed Y so wouldn’t resent having to do that at all. I just don’t have a lot of time to at the moment.

From looking at the image jojo12100 posted I will have to play both Ultra Moon and Sun to get UB Burst and UB Lay with myself as the OT, so I do want to enjoy theses games.

I think with a lot of small improvements Ultra Sun and Moon could be really nice games, maybe even the definitive 3DS Pokemon game. Currently I think Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are the best Pokemon games on the 3DS.

I still don’t find myself as excited as others seem to be for the games though, which is unsual as i've been pretty hyped for all the Pokemon 3DS games so far. I’m hoping that will change though.

  6. It would be nice to see all these variants out there, however I totally agree it's not worth the asking price, even if it happened to be reduced by 50%.

If anyone is seriously considering buying the above and has the money to put down for something like that then I would re enforce what @Deoxyz has said and maybe message him and have a chat.

  7. I'm not sure if this is "new" news, however it's footage and info i've not seen before, which looks to have only recently been uploaded to YouTube. It's footage from Nintendo Space World 97 which includes a little game play from a demo of Pokemon Gold, which was playable at Space World 97:

You will notice the Super Game Boy Border is different, showing Gengar and Pikachu with a very early looking Hoppip:

The Pokemon Gold / Silver page on The Cutting Room Floor seems to have been updated with more information compared to when I last read it https://tcrf.net/Prerelease:Pokémon_Gold_and_Silver#Playable_Demo

  8. I must admit i'm getting tired of all the raid exclusive Pokemon too. If i could do raids in my local area on an evening I would do, however the nearest gym is 30+ mins away (which no one seems to raid at anyway!) That leaves doing raids in town after work, which rarely has raids at that time.

At present I only need Entei, Suicune and Raikou to have everything released so far in the UK. Raikou is next months here, sadly I've missed Entei and i'm yet to get Suicune this month.

I have considered spoofing, however i've got everything else legit, so it would ruin the game for me I think.

If i ever get to the point where i just don't care anymore i'll probably spoof to Japan like theSlayer is doing. I did go to Manchester, UK this summer to play the game, it's honestly such a different experience playing the game in a major city. Their was over 100 people on a street corner doing a Zapdos raid, then as people left loads more people came, it was so easy to get in to raids which was really nice.

Personally I think the game should scale to the area based on number of gyms and active players, so in a quiet area 2 or 3 people should be enough to do a 5* raid. Lets be honest even if you win that doesn't mean you will actually capture the Pokemon, so you still have to work hard to earn it.

  9. Strangely enough I forgot about this event as Game UK had some issues with codes at the start of the event. I managed to grab a code last night.

The event runs for quite a long time here in the UK, until November 16th 2017.

At the moment what save manager can we use to extract and inject saves with?  Currently JKSM isn't recognizing the game on the system and SaveDataFiler corrupts the save every time I attempt to inject a save.

I used SaveDataFiler, start a new game on the 3DS and save it.

Now export the save with SaveDataFiler

Keep in mind if you are injecting a save from an original game cartridge or emulator then you need to open the save in an hex editor (HxD is easy to use and free) and delete the last two lines of the save file like so:

    pokemon-gen-2-vc-save.jpg.c6ae70d413f256f94614febdbc769343.jpg

After doing this save the modifications on HxD and then rename your save file to sav.dat

You can now overwrite the sav.dat you dumped with the sav.dat you wish to restore.

Finally restore the save with SaveDataFiler and be sure to then find the games title in user tab of SaveDataFiler and delete the secure value (01726 = Pokemon Gold, 01727 = Pokemon Silver)

Your save should load perfectly fine then.

Their is a tool here that should do the above hex editing for you, however my save game always showed up as corrupted when i tried to use that:

  11. The Pokemon GC games seem to have issues with region swapping saves in my experience.

If you remember with Pokemon Box I had similar issues with trying to load your NTSC save on my PAL version of Pokemon Box.

I could load your NTSC save, using an NTSC game on a PAL console, however when using a PAL game it would read the save, then corrupt it when trying to save any changes.

I’m guessing the Pokemon games might have slightly different savefile layouts between regional copies of the games.

  12. For anyone on the fence with contributing I know Deoxyz has personally invested a lot of his own money (were talking $1000's) in both the 10ANNIV and Aurora Ticket Distribution then released them for free asking for nothing in return.

In addition he was the one who got us a distributed set of the French, German, Italian and Spanish 10ANNIV Pokemon, along with the Aura Mew in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish for the GEN 3 event save myself and HaxAras has spent a lot of time on last year. Something we learned a lot later on that the research team here didn't even have these Pokemon.

So needless to say if you value these old, rare Pokemon event's and want to see people enjoy them now and in the future it's well worth donating anything you can justify in my opinion. Sadly these old events are usually hoarded away in private collections never to be seen again, when a chance to obtain them comes up its often very costly unfortunately, Deoxyz has absorbed this up front on PayPal credit, however this and anything in the future is only going to be viable if the community comes together to make it happen.

If this comes off their is also another event in the works, which has been for many months now. This is close to been finalised too, so this year could potentially be another good year for GEN 3 events.

They haven't announced how they'll be distributing the serial codes.

I'm afraid they screw the box purchases over :/

If you do get 2, redeem one on S/M, and another on US/UM XD

Game who I pre-ordered with have generally been pretty good with codes and such in the past. I've had some Xbox 360 codes sent by email I was never expecting before the game has been released. They do seem to be close with Nintendo UK and are the only ones offering the boxed version besides Nintendo here, so i'm hopeful!

I'm also rather excited, as it'll be our first USUM event!

We may get the serial even before game release, and just sit on it! :D

It looks like you might also be able to redeem the code on the standard Sun / Moon games too? if so the question is should I wait or not.

Actually I wonder if i'll get two codes as i did pre-order both boxed versions of Gold and Silver.

SciresM github has a scraper. (I think mystery machine isn't updating anymore)

Also yeah, I wanna get the boxes too!

I've been wondering, if we email Nintendo to tell them we want our Gen1/2 saves transferred to VC, would they be happy to import the saves over?

I'll have to check that scraper out.

As nice as it would be I can't imagine Nintendo ever officially allowing saves to be transferred over. Most cart batteries are likely long since dead, so people who did have the foresight to backup their saves before that happened are likely in the small minority, even then i can't personally see Nintendo entertaining any sort of user dumping of data from game carts.

Let's say they did though, how do you think it would be done? the user posts their GB cartridge and 3DS to Nintendo for them to dump and inject the save. Maybe using a setup that will dump a save from a GB cart, erase the cart and then copy the save to a special flash card like cartridge that would quickly restore the save when inserted in to the 3DS?

I'm more than happy I can restore my save unofficially, however officially would be pretty nice I must admit.

That said i'm optimistic for a GEN 2 Celebi event and have a feeling Nintendo will make the effort for that.

  16. This is potentially great news!

How are people viewing these test wonder cards? i'm guessing it's something to with the mystery gift servers? https://manatails.net/blog/2016/03/hacking-pokemon-6th-gen-mystery-gift-server/ or mystery machine: http://mys.salthax.org/ ?

As for the VC games I've already pre-ordered the boxed version of the Gold and Silver (yes I want an empty box to sit with my other games :P)

I'll be restoring my original Gold save dumped from my cartridge then playing though Silver!

okay the forum has changed so much since I was last on. How can I extract a Mew from my Pokemon yellow?

OT:LUIGE forgot what event its from. its touched and level 100 but I bought it with its certificate on ebay so its legit

The J.Rodrigo Cart Flasher for GameBoy Deoxyz linked to is by far the most easy way to backup saves these days. I did a little tutorial / review on this a few months ago: GameBoy / GameBoy Colour USB Save Game Backup

If your in Europe i'd be happy to dump the save for you, probably wouldn't be cost effective if your on the other side of the world, however if you need any help let me know.

  18. Today on my way to work we'd stopped at a red light in range of a gym.

I managed to take the gym out (I wasn't driving don't worry) however was then ever so slightly too far away to claim it :XD:

    Sorry Team Valor I tried!

  19. It's probably not that much effort to drop a guy in front of the door or somewhere to block access, that fixes Crystal up with very little effort.

You do make a point with events though. The UK one was ultra limited. It was in one city, in the middle of the working week, for one night, where (i think 50) people had the chance of winning an invite online. So with those odd's we did pretty well for two different people who are on this site to actually attend and obtain the event. Most people will be oblivious it ever happened unless they read about it online.

With that in mind i guess you could say only Japan really had a proper event, which does make me re-think how much Nintendo care for VC events sadly.

I do still think it's quite possible for Crystal to get a release in the future though, as I really don't think it would be much effort to fix that up. However event wise you have made me re-think.

I thought a lot about it, but now I think they won't release Crystal. As cool as it would be and I admit it.
But especially when it comes to the Japanese Version... if they don't patch it in any kind of way they literally would release an unfinished game.
The Pokemon Communication Center would still be there, the Battle Tower would still be there...
I really can't imagine they would release a game like this. But I also can't imagine that they would put much effort into this.

What's to stop them simply keeping the area's inaccessible? maybe have someone stood in front of it, saying all these years later it's closed down (which is true) that would take very little effort to do and doesn't really ruin the game at all, or require any major alterations.

Looking at the Yellow VC game, the effort was made to keep the Surfing Pikachu game accessible without having to link up to Pokemon Stadium. That proves some effort is been made to tweak the games where required.

    56 minutes ago, ajxpk said:

By the way... even if they release Crystal, the chance that they patch the GS Ball into the save file via PokeBank is unlikely IMO, considering they never did something like that before.
It doesn't really sounds like the Pokemon Company/GameFreak to me... so I'm not sure why they would do it that way...
I think the only Celebii we might see in Gen 2 VC will be similar to Mew Gen 1 VC.

Nintendo had also never re-released the Pokemon GameBoy games before last year, the effort was made to patch in WiFi trading and update PokeTransporter to be able to read the VC saves and import Pokemon. I wouldn't say it doesn't sound like the Pokemon Company / GameFreak to me personally.

By April 2016 the GEN 1 VC games had sold 1.5 million copies so $9.99 * 1.5 million = almost $15 million profit, for what was probably not that much work. If Crystal is released at a later date it will sell in my opinion.

Will Nintendo release it? i honestly don't know. Sure it's wishful thinking they will and and have a modern day WiFi event, however I personally don't think it would be really that difficult to do if Nintendo wanted to do it.

  21. The boxed versions with a download code are now on the Nintendo UK store for pre-order: https://store.nintendo.co.uk/games/nintendo-3ds/pokemon-gold-version-pokemon-silver-version.list - £8.99 each + £1.99 delivery.

Hopefully they will be available from Amazon or Game for a similar price, as they will usually do free delivery.

I'd love for the GS ball to be done though Pokebank, that would be a great modern take on a classic event.

Is it wrong i'm more excited for Gold / Silver than Ultra Sun and Moon?
