  1. Heya folks, I've got an ambitious project - a double battle against both dragon leaders - in mind, and this brings up several queries: 1- According to this thread, people have found the Narc locations for NPC sprites and in-battle sprites, but is there any way to actually edit them? I was imagining a shot of Iris and Drayden standing side by side before you fight them. Putting the two sprites next to each other in photoshop should be an easy task, but extracting the pictures is where the problem lies. 2- how about the flashy, pre-Gym-battle close up portraits? Where it shows your face and their face and a bunch of cool blurred lines? Has the Narc location for that been found? 3- Is there a known way to insert a trainer sprite into a specific location? I was imagining putting an immobile, speechless "statue" of Iris right next to Drayden. You'd need to talk to the old man to start the battle, and the little girl would just stand there in order to show that you're about to fight them both at once. If it can be done for Gen 4 with PPRE... 4- Am I correct in assuming that I can use the PPTXT text editing tool to give both trainers dialogue before the battle, and Kazo's B/W Trainer Editor to turn Drayden's fight into a double battle with 6 dragons; 3 male and 3 female? 5- Is this an overall manageable pipe dream, or am I in need of a major reality check? Cheers! Edit: Oops, just realized that this might belong in the ROM editing and help section. My apologies to the mods - could you please move it there?
  2. Disregard this, I just found http://projectpokemon.org/forums/showthread.php?13273-B-W-Trainer-Editor and I haven't figured out how to delete threads yet
  3. Thanks aninymouse, good to know!
  4. Okay, I've got a new problem but I didn't want to waste space with a new thread. So here goes: I wanted a more "earthy" Vibrava/Flygon, so I used the shiny Vibrava palette (attachment 1) to replace the regular Vibrava. I liked the way that the colors looked, so I tried to use the same palette on a shiny Flygon (att. 2). I did this by opening two copies of GraphicsGale, loading an image of Vibrava in one and Flygon in the other, selecting and copying the Flygon, then selecting the Vibrava in the other window and hitting paste. My result was attachment 3, and I was quite happy with it. So, I go to pokeDSpic and select a "palette" Flygon (one of the ones labeled "48") and load the png of my modded Flygon in its place. The modded one looks just fine when I load it, but after I hit "write to Narc," all of the Flygon images start looking like an inverted mess - see attachment 4. I can't make heads or tails of what went wrong, but I feel that it's worth mentioning that the discolored Flygons (but not their background) have a palette that is very similar - if not identical - to the .png that I modified and tried to insert. All help appreciated! :grog: Edit: Problem fixed by manually recoloring the sprite in question instead of simply dumping one image/palette onto another. Still kinda curious as to why, though...
  5. In an effort to recolor some poke sprites for my Platinum ROM, I got a copy of pokeDSpic Plat and saved some pngs of poke sprites into an independent folder. I recolored them with GraphicsGale, then reloaded them in pokepic. The recolored sprites showed up just fine, but after I hit "Write to Narc," nothing happened. I'd close pokepic then re-open it, and it would display the standard colored sprites and not the edited ones. No error messages, no warnings, just a failure to permanently save. As I kept playing around with it and trying to get it to work, I found that I could permanently save pngs that had only been recolored in MS Paint. The problem there is that Paint would only let me use colors that were already in the original sprite's palette. In the case of my Dratini, I was stuck recoloring using shades of blue and gray. So, any idea what's going awry?
  6. I'm loathe to bump my own posts, but I'm still pulling out my hair trying to figure out how to transfer my modded Diamond attacks to Heart Gold. Any kind souls care to help me out?
  7. Okay, another embarrassingly newbie problem has cropped up for me. I managed to get the Attack Editor up and working, and successfully modded a Diamond ROM then transferred the relevant narc to a Platinum game. My Platinum team is now rocking some neato modded attacks. However, I then tried to modify several attacks on my HG game in the same manner, with no luck whatsoever. It was easy enough to replace the (Platinum) pl_waza_tbl.narc with the (Diamond) waza_tbl.narc, but I can't figure how to make it fit into Heart Gold's a/0/1/1. NitroExplorer2B didn't work for me for whatever reason, and the only other solution that I could think of was to directly copy/paste the narc from the Diamond to the HG folder. I'd have been more than a little surprised if that second method actually DID work :frown: So, any kind words of wisdom for a newbie?
  8. Hm, I'll most def. look into it. Have you tried out Platinum Enhanced? The one where Barry starts out with a Beldum and you choose between 1 of the 3 pseudo-legendary dragons as your starter? I just started that one, but I'm not above jumping ship and starting the Perfect Platinum you suggested. And by all means, make that mod of your own! Just be sure to make the Revives that gym leaders use actually WORK. I swear, I played an HG/SS mod where Morty spent like every other move trying to bring back his Gengar with nothing happening...
  9. Not to revive/derail an already resolved thread, but yes. I did indeed ask around /vp/ for the best place to mod my roms, and well, here I am. But please don't associate me with the depraved cesspit that is 4chan.
  10. Heh, I thought that my Search-Fu was stronger, but I somehow managed to miss that thread - thanks for pointing it out! It solved my first problem: the Attack Editor that Aninymouse linked to worked where my old one didn't. As for the 2nd issue - transferring the modded attacks from the Diamond rom to Platinum one - I've had a bit more of a problem. I tried Nitro Explorer 2 first, and couldn't find the narc file that Aninymouse spoke of (waza_tbl.narc) in order to transfer. The only "waza" file had no "tbl" in it, as you can see in the attached thumbnail. Am I looking in the wrong place, or do I have the wrong version of Nitro Explorer? And as for using PPRE to directly transfer the modded attacks, I'm a bit confused. Is there a way to make a folder containing nothing but the attack data from Diamond and use it to replace the one in Platinum? If not, would you mind elaborating on how it "places them in a folder?" This is all new territory for me, so I'm grateful for every little drop of wisdom that you can all provide. Edit: Never mind, I think I got it. I found waza_tbl.narc for Diamond, and replaced the pl_waza_tbl.narc in the Platinum folder with it. It's worth noting that the Platinum folder had both a 2 files - a "waza" and a "pl_waza" - and I deleted them both to make room for the edited Diamond file. Here's to hoping that this doesn't cause any problems.
  11. Okay, so I downloaded Attack Editor DS, only to find that it doesn't work on Platinum. I've heard that it's possible to edit moves on D/P and then transfer the move data to a Platinum ROM. I can edit my Diamond version's moves (though after I click "save" and exit the Attack Editor, the moves revert to their original state when I re-enter it). So: 1: How do I get the modifications to attacks to stay in place, or do they already do that to the ROM without changing on the Attack Editor menu? 2: The bigger question; what programs do I download and how do I use them to replace my Platinum attack data with the modded Diamond data? Thanks!
  12. Heya, I found that PPRE wouldn't let me save any changes to moves that I had made (ex. changing Thunder Fang from 65 to 75 base power). I recall hearing somewhere that I'd need to edit the ROM's hex values in order to do that - which is something that I haven't the faintest idea how to do. Any kind souls willing to help me out? Thanks!
  13. If I had to play one and only one modded version of Platinum, what would you guys suggest? I'm looking for a difficulty increase where the enemy NPCs use higher-leveled pokemon and more items, but ex-nay on the NPC-controlled legendaries. The game's plot is just fine the way it is, so there's no need to radically rewrite the script. Encountering Nationaldex pokemon prematurely is fine, but in no way necessary. So, what's out there? Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the swift response! Tinkering around with the overworld sprite, battle sprite and pokemon name all seem a tad bit too complicated for me. I decided to try your option #2 - use PPRE to give Dragonair the same base stats as Dragonite and no 2nd stage evolution, so as to essentially use a buffed-up 'nair instead of a heavily-modded 'nite. Less work for essentially the same result I tried everything that you suggested here and Oxnite suggested here, all to to avail. I created a new .nds rom with the modifications I wanted, then when I went to try it out nothing had changed. No buffed-up Dragonair. A few thoughts on the matter: First of all, I just want to make sure that I'm using the newest program. PPRE beta 0.14 IS the newest Windows version out there, no? For what it's worth, I'm running the newest Rudolph patch. Secondly, after I've made my desired changes, what's the difference between "Write Rom" and "Create Patch?" I've found that I need to create a new rom before I can even try to make a patch, and I've tried playing this new rom without the PPRE-created patch, with the patch installed via PPRE, and with the patch installed via a copy of xDelta GUI that I had downloaded independently. It's definitely worth noting that the rom I used wasn't "clean" - I had prior installed a "hard mode" mod that bumped up the difficulty. The .dsv save file I loaded to test out if the changes had worked was a .dsv file that had been played on the "hard mode" from the very beginning. I did rename the file to match the name of the newly-created, PPRE-modded rom (and it loaded just fine), but I suspect the first mod is where the problem lies. Is there any way to keep my original mod while also adding in the PPRE changes I'd like to make? Do I have to either dump my current game and start fresh with a clean rom, or keep on playing with a bulbous, Barney-The-Dinosaur looking 'mon on my team? Can I have my cake and eat it too? Edit: I downloaded a clean rom, installed Rudolph's patch, tried the same modifications, and they still didn't work. Looks to me like the other mod might not have been the problem after all. Is there a list of common reasons for changes made in PPRE not carrying over?
  15. Greetings to everyone! I'm pretty much looking for exactly what I put in my title. In my particular case, I find that the slim and elegant Dragonair looks much more appealing than its pudgy orange evolution. It's a dear wish of mine to be able to evolve my Dragonair only to find that it looks exactly the same, albeit with a different name, higher stats and a more diverse movepool. I've no doubt that it's possible to make a Dragonite look like a Dragonair, a Ninetales look like an Arcanine, or an Arceus take the appearance of a Bidoof. In battle, in the pokemon selection menu, and following you in the overworld. Would any kind souls tell me what programs to download and what steps to take in order to do this? My only experience editing pokemon ROMs thus far is with Pokesav, so the more tutorials you could link to, the better. Thanks a ton! Edit: Failing that, might any good Samaritans tell me how to replace Dragonair's base stats with Dragonite's, so that they get the same stat growths? I can take care of names/movesets with Pokesav if need be. The only thorn in my side then would be the game attempting to evolve me every time that I level up. Any solutions for this besides holding an Everstone 24/7?
