PKHex says "binary is not compatible with generation 9" when trying to load a gen 3 .sav file Help

I can't load an emerald save file in PKHex it just keeps on saying "binary is not compatible with generation 9" I'm currently playing on the mGBA emulator

Be sure you are loading a save file that is ~128KB. Not a save state.

So what's the difference I'm new to pokemon on emulators and how do I get the emulator to give me a save file? instead of a save state. Do I have to save in game?

Thanks Kaphotics I finally Figured it out and I was able to get two treecos and mudkips though I got an error message saying "Invalid: Encounter type PID mismatch"

In Gen 3 PID, IVs, nature and gender are related to eachother. If you change any of those values you have to calculate a valid PID for them, PKHeX won't do that for you.
