how do I edit nds files and save the changes

I keep struggling to use Pkhex. I don't know how to save and upload my changes. I can't even edit my saved files.

It keeps saying the file is too big so I think it may be corrupted.

I'm using Desmume and the save files are saved in save states. This is for Pokemon platinum

Save states are not save files. Save in-game to generate a proper save file (again, not a save state!) and follow this tutorial

is there a version of this for gba games or is that a whole other can of worms
