Lavindathar
Hey guys, Not sure if this is the right Place to ask, but I think it is. After recently playing some Pokémon games, I kinda got back into it. Now, from when I was in high school I have an original blue cartridge that has a legit event Mew Pokémon on it. So it’s unique Pokémon ID, and somewhere I have the certificate to match. I’ve decided I want to get the save data off the cartridge and into a PC before it’s too late. Maybe even rewrite it back to another original cartridge with a fresh battery. My question is, what equipment do I need? I guess I need a flash card reader, and a flash card. I’m a tech novice, so that’s me guessing. Basically. I need to copy my original blue data to a Pc. Change the battery. Then rewrite back to a cartridge. Or maybe I make a copy onto a flash cartridge so I can freely trade the Mew around. Or just upload the rom. I guess not many are left now. Would someone be able to confirm if this is correct? And even better link a reader and flash cart that are suitable for the task and easily available to purchase? I don’t have original game boys anymore, only GBA SP, but that plays the original games so I guess it doesn’t matter. Unless the flash card memory has to be a certain size. SkyLink98
You can use any GameBoy Dumper, there are plenty on ebay. If you want to preserve the Mew, you don't have to dump/upload/share the ROM. Sharing the ROM would be illegal in most cases, and not condoned on this forum. Dumping the save file is the way to go. With GB dumpers you can also restore the save file on your original cart as many times you want.

InsaneNutter
You have quite a few different options, I used the J.Rodrigo Cart Flasher for GameBoy to backup my GabeBoy saves via USB. That or any of the options above should do the job if you can find them in stock, only the Joey JR from BennVenn seems to be at the moment. Lavindathar
So, to get this right : a dumper would allow me to rip and restore saved games to original cartridges, but not roms? a flash cart/flash card read/writer would allow me to do the above, but also transfer entire roms to flash carts (not just saved game data). and if I had a game Dumper and a flash cart, I could write roms as well? I actually looked at the Rodrigo one, and messaged him enquiring as to more would come in stock. I saw this on eBay that’s U.K. based - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154537618946?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180105095853%26meid%3Dc8b63744cf97467980c4fdaecf088ce8%26pid%3D100903%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D20%26sd%3D373449486426%26itm%3D154537618946%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2510209&_trksid=p2510209.c100903.m5276 does this do what I need? Has anyone used this particular one before? sorry if this post makes no sense, kind of out of my depth.
Lavindathar
Regarding - https://bennvenn.myshopify.com/products/usb-gb-c-cart-dumper-the-joey-jr?variant=39316247773287 would this do everything I wanted also? If I had a flash cartridge, this would also allow me to dump roms onto cartridges (such as team rocket rom hacks) etc? I think I’ve decided I will upload the save of my game. But I’ve also decided, that I would like to copy my entire rom/save onto a flash cartridge, so I can trade my mew in person without having to mess with my original save/cartridge. possible using this equipment, or the eBay one I linked above?
