How do I (properly) edit starter Pikachu in Yellow?

Whenever I edit the Pikachu, it seems like it turns into a regular Pikachu (non-following, generic cry).

I didn't edit the ID (or my ID for that matter), just moves and stats. I'm assuming changing the stats is what is breaking it? Is there a way around this?

I still can't seem to find a way. Anybody else having this issues and know how to fix this?

It's like that your Pikachu's OT isn't the same as your OT.

Not just the visible OT, even the trash bytes.

Give this a try (and rename the file correctly before importing it)
