VideoGamePhenom Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 There are numerous users (most of them are multiple accounts being operated by one person) posting spam and advertising links on this site. Anyone who is an administrator or a moderator, please investigate this case so we can prevent further loss of bandwith on this site.
evandixon Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 There's no way to stop them without also stopping legitimate users too. We can ban them, but they'll just make another account. An IP ban won't solve the problem either, because IP addresses change, and proxy servers allow them to use a new one. If you see spam bots, just report them, and we'll delete their posts and ban them when we have the opportunity.
VideoGamePhenom Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Understood. Just about a lot of the good guys on the forums community are looking after these sock puppets.
Guest Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 You can keep spam bots out by asking custom questions. Just make sure Wolfram|Alpha doesn't give an answer to them.
randomspot555 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 You can keep spam bots out by asking custom questions. Just make sure Wolfram|Alpha doesn't give an answer to them. There is a custom question already in place. Unfortunately, what sometimes happens is the spambot is made by areal person and then the account is turned over to a script or whatever.
