My first competitive battle! And I won!

Spartan Pikachu: blaziken.gifcelebi.gifgroudon.giflugia.gifpikachu.gifsalamence.gif

This was the order of the Pokemon in my party.

Logan: dugtrio.gifblaziken.gifsprite.php?natid=534&f2=1wailord.gifcradily.gifsprite.php?natid=497&f2=1

This was the order that his Pokemon came out in.

The Battle! (All text that looks like this is my comments. Sorry I didn't include pics. I didn't even think about it.)

Battle between Spartan Pikachu and Logan started!

Rule: Unrated

Logan sent out Dugtrio!

Spartan Pikachu sent out Blaziken!

Start of turn 1

The foe's Dugtrio used Earthquake!

The foe's Dugtrio's Earth Jewel raised Earthquake's power!

It's super effective!

Blaziken lost 363 HP! (99% of its health)

Blaziken hung on using its focus sash!

Blaziken used Seismic Toss!

The foe's Dugtrio lost 47% of its health!

I wondered how his Dugtrio was faster than my Blaziken.

Start of turn 2

The foe's Dugtrio used Fury Swipes!

Blaziken lost 1 HP! (0% of its health)

Blaziken fainted!

Hit 1 times!

Spartan Pikachu sent out Groudon!

Groudon's Drought intensified the sun's rays!

Start of turn 3

The foe's Dugtrio used Earthquake!

I thought that was way too much health for an Earthquake on Groudon.

The foe's Dugtrio fainted!

The sunlight is strong!

Logan sent out Roobushin!

Spartan Pikachu sent out Lugia!

I don't know much about 5th gen Pokemon, so I was wary of what was going to happen next.

Start of turn 5

Lugia used Earthquake!

It had no effect!

The foe's Roobushin lost 23% of its health!

The foe's Roobushin used Swagger!

Lugia's Attack sharply rose!

Lugia became confused!

The sunlight is strong!

Don't ask me how Earthquake had no effect and did damge. No clue there. And I didn't even realise he had used swagger on me until turn 6 ended.

Start of turn 6

Lugia is confused!

It hurt itself in its confusion!

Lugia lost 50 HP! (12% of its health)

The foe's Roobushin used Comet Punch!

A critical hit!

Lugia lost 39 HP! (9% of its health)

Lugia lost 17 HP! (4% of its health)

Lugia lost 18 HP! (4% of its health)

Lugia lost 18 HP! (4% of its health)

I wasn't overly annoyed by the confusion damage but I was when he used that. I was thankful that it didn't do too much damage however.

Start of turn 7

It's super effective!

The foe's Roobushin lost 76% of its health!

The foe's Roobushin fainted!

Lugia used Blizzard!

The foe's Wailord avoided the attack!

The foe's Wailord used Return!

Lugia lost 62 HP! (15% of its health)

The sunlight is strong!

...I'm not much for the unobvious move/type matchups.

Start of turn 9

Lugia used Blizzard!

It's not very effective...

The foe's Wailord lost 22% of its health!

The foe's Wailord used Hydro Pump!

The foe's Wailord's Water Jewel raised Hydro Pump's power!

Start of turn 10

The foe's Cradily used Rock Slide!

It's super effective!

Lugia lost 108 HP! (27% of its health)

The sunlight is strong!

The foe's Cradily restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

...Kinda neutral turn for both of us except that Lugia's health was low.

Start of turn 13

Lugia used Psycho Boost!

The foe's Cradily lost 18% of its health!

Lugia's Sp. Att. sharply fell!

The foe's Cradily used Rock Slide!

It's super effective!

Lugia lost 19 HP! (4% of its health)

Lugia fainted!

The sunlight is strong!

The foe's Cradily restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Spartan Pikachu sent out Celebi!

Yeah, that was going to happen soon. I sent out Celebi because of this:

Start of turn 14

Celebi used Giga Drain!

The foe's Cradily lost 34% of its health!

The foe's Cradily had its energy drained!

The foe's Cradily used Sludge Bomb!

It's super effective!

Isn't Cradily water and grass?

I knew Jarooda is a grass type so I switched out straight away.

Start of turn 17

The foe's Jarooda used Hidden Power!

It's super effective!

Salamence lost 96 HP! (28% of its health)

Salamence used Flamethrower!

It's super effective!

The foe's Jarooda lost 74% of its health!

The sunlight is strong!

Lots of people make their Pokemon have Hidden Power and I don't know why.

Start of turn 18

The foe's Jarooda used Iron Tail!

The attack of the foe's Jarooda missed!

Salamence used Flamethrower!

It's super effective!

The foe's Jarooda lost 25% of its health!

The foe's Jarooda fainted!

Iron Tail wouldn't have done much anyway anyway so I just finished him off

Spartan Pikachu won the battle!

Logan did put up a good fight however.

The text export of my team can be found here.

Also, if anyone would like so see my other battles I have them saved as logs and I don't mind giving them to you.

Well you do need a lot of help on the team.

I will answer some of the questions you put in here though:

1) I wondered how his Dugtrio was faster than my Blaziken.

Dugtrio has base 120 speed, Blaziken has base 80 speed. It's A LOT faster than blaziken.

2) I thought that was way too much health for an Earthquake on Groudon.

That seems ok to me, a lot would have been like 40 -50%, 28% is nothing.

3) Don't ask me how Earthquake had no effect and did damge. No clue there. And I didn't even realise he had used swagger on me until turn 6 ended.

There's a bug on PO at the moment that makes Earthquake hurt both sides. The No effect was aimed at your Lugia, whilst it still hurt the opponent.

4) Isn't Cradily water and grass?

Cradily is Grass/Rock

5) Lots of people make their Pokemon have Hidden Power and I don't know why.

Hidden power allows a pokémon to have coverage over certain types that they other wise wouldn't be able to hit. Such as Gengar with HP fire to hit Scizor, Jolteon with HP grass for Swampert, Heatran with HP ice for Salamence/ Dragonite and Gliscor.

About hidden power, the way the type and base power of hidden power is chosen is based on a pokemon's IVs. Max power is 70, and it can be any type except normal. Look up a hidden power calculator to find an IV spread you want. General rule of thumb is higher IVs = higher base power.

Oh and the battle wasn't really notable. Lots of mistakes on both sides, and strange teams.

No offense, but dur. It was my first online, competitive battle. I can't speak for Logan though.

Haha fair enough. Logan had his fair share of mistakes, though. EQ on Groudon was pretty unnecessary. Comet punch? Lol. Wailord sucks. (seriously he does although he has tons of hp) Cradily is not meant to be used to kill things with rock slide and sludge bomb, or at least not successfully. In general his team wasn't all that great.

Also as I'm sure you've been told several times, using ubers like Lugia and Groudon is truly unfair.

No, I haven't actually. That was the first time.

BTW I would like some responses here on my team because I need some very needed help. I am going to make a new team and post it there soon however. So I can try that out later :D.

Ubers are basically pokemon that are too strong for normal pokemon to deal with. They are killable, but they pose serious threats and centralize the metagame, which means they force people to deal with them as serious threats and too many people use them.

Here's a list: http://www.smogon.com/dp/tiers/uber

Oh, also, its worth mentioning that the tier list is likely to be largely thrown out the window with the advent of Black and White, but until then, use these.

Not thrown out the window, more, modified.
