the pla save file is valid and everything, its just that i changed one byte in HxD since i couldnt find what i was looking for in pkhex. so then after i was going to open it up in pkhex just to save it to validate the checksums and whatnot but it wont open and i get the file size error.

the overall file size is the exact same down to the bytes. is it a checksum legality issue? is there a way to maybe force pkhex to just load it in anyway? thanks so much

Gen8+ save files are encrypted and hashed; by mutating part of the save data haphazardly, you've invalidated the signature that authenticates it as valid. Hence why the program does not load it.

oh ok, and theres no way for the program to get around it im assuming.

can i maybe edit the values in pkhex? i think i found the offset for the trainer photo id but i cant locate it in pkhex's block data editor

You should NOT be wanting to change your trainer photo or any image that can be transferred online to others.

oh i dont think i was clear, this is for legends arceus not scarlet/violet. i mean that i want to change to another one of the preset ones that pla gives you. the trainer card has 8 preset photos depending on your selected gender and skin. i changed my trainers skin color with the block data editor but now the card doesnt match. so i was looking to research which byte holds the 8 photo ids. i thinkk i found the byte in HxD but i cant locate which data block its in on pkhex

ok i figured out how to edit the pla trainer icon if anyone else ran into the same conundrum as me.

load up the save in pkhex>block data>export blocks to folder. from that dump, all we need is the "F25C070E.bin" file. open that up in HxD and the byte of interest is at offset 0x3C. i dont have documentation of all 8 possible choices, just the 2 i tested, so i recommend making a new save file with your desired gender/skin then playing until you get your galaxy expedition uniform (~30mins) and do the steps i listed earlier to this save as well to see the correct value you need to switch the byte to for your desired outcome for your main save. once you replaced the byte with your desired value, save it and make sure its the only file in it's folder. then from pkhex again, click import blocks from folder, then you should be done and good to save

this took quite awhile to find the correct file but everything seems to be working fine. and for the record i'll just list the 2 values i know while figuring this out for my save:

Default Skin Female: 02

Tan Skin Female: 07
