So I've followed all the steps including the ones for a game cartridge, and I'm having problems with the extract exefs.bat file not working (ie. the folder exefs does not show up). I am on a Windows computer and downloaded CTRtools from the link provided, I even went to download the makerom.exe from the same link!! I provided a screenshot of what I have so far below.

I think I was having a similar issue recently, and I got this to work with ctrtools v1.2.0, give this a try:
extract exefs.bat

I tried this file and it worked!! The folder appeared with the code.bin file. Thank you so much for the assistance!!

Okay, now I have amother issue; My game crashes whenever I try to open it after finishing this hack. I get an "an exception occured error" and any button I press other than A shuts down my game. I'm using Pokemon X for this by the way. Did I do something wrong?

EDIT: turns out I had updated my game beforehand, so I just redid the tutorial but with the selection in godmode for the updated patch, everything works now!

I was gonna say you probably took the non-updated exeFS, but then saw your edit.

Good work, glad it works for ya!

Now, for me to edit the steps..

Hello I did this exploit before and I got it to work, recently I had to reinstall custom firmware on my 3ds and after that I redid the exploit and it doesn't work, I followed all the steps and edited the code.bin file and pasted it into Luma and enabled game patching but it doesn't work, any help?

I'm on pokemon Y by the way, I don't know if an update might have caused this

I'm having a bit of trouble with running extract exefs.bat? Every time I try to run it, a command window opens and closes immediately before I can even see what it says. Really not sure what to do here since I haven't even gotten to editing the code

Hello! First of all thanks for writing this post, I'm playing around with programming a shiny hunting bot for 3DS and I need easy access to shinies for testing (imagine doing a full odds test every time you make a little change lol). I tried a cheat I found online that allows for different shiny rates (88 / 50 / 15) but it constantly makes the game crash. This works FLAWLESSLY!

I did have two issues:

1. Using the .code file copied from the mounted exefs partition in GM9 didn't work. The contents don't match the search string.

2. I'm using the latest release of CTRTools, and the provided command for extracting the code.bin using CTRTools doesnt work. I had to use this instead:

ctrtool.exe --exefsdir=exefs --decompresscode exefs.bin

Glad to hear it is working for you!

1. I dunno if I mentioned what you did somewhere (or if I recommended it somewhere) but yeah GM9 .code extract doesn’t work. I should state that clearly in the tutorial

2. yeah I had to ping pong between various versions of the command. I should upload it just in case.

Thanks! I understand, I was playing around with the game and was happy to find SciresM’s tweet and get it to work for other games.
