Please help - noob

Hey, so I used to hack years ago using pokegen... Havent for a long while- as I have powersaves now which does most of what I want to do really simply...

However i'd like to hack again - I have downloaded PKHex and it seems straight forward however - I do not have a clue how to open my save game file, the powersaves makes it encrypted and even though there is software to decrypt it? How to you encrypt it again for powersaves, or am I going about it all wrong?

Can someone help me basically to tell me how i open my game to edit and how i resave to play...

Not familiar with powersave, BUT you can always just get CFW its available for every 3ds system and version, then just use JKSV or Checkpoint to move your save files. It will take at most 30 min to get you up and running.

Can you elaborate? how do I do that? and will that ban me from online battles?

You will only get banned if you cheat, illegal pokemon and what not. Everything else can be avoided if you follow the guide lines. Im not sure how much I can say regarding CFW in here, but the guide to get CFW (Custome Firmware) is in 3ds.guide

CFW talk is okay.  But yeah follow the guide in the link above. After, you’ll be able to manage your save files and use them with programs like PKHeX.
