Section 1

In this section I will talk about the basics EVs

• 1.What are EV's?

While training your Pokemon you may notice that some Pokemon gain more stats in one area while battling the same Pokemon.

This is because of EVs, EV stands for "Effort Value". EVs are what affect your Pokemon's stats while training them.

Say you wanted to train a Pokemon to have a very high speed so it could attack first you would want to battle a Pokemon that gives out Speed EVs. For every 4 EVs you get a stat, but there is a limit on how much you can earn and that limit is that you can only get 510 EVs before they will stop being counted. If you wanted to max out the speed of a Pokemon you would want to battle 255 Pokemon that give out speed EVs, if you gain any more they will be useless.

• 2.Why should I EV train my Pokemon?

If you are reading this then you want to know why you should EV train your Pokemon.

By EV training your Pokemon you control what stats it gains and what it does not, in this way you could Shedinja to have max speed and very little Sp.Def and Defense since it only has one HP, so you could have it attack first to make sure you get a hit in if it would be knocked out by a attack.

The idea is to control and have a balance on stats, so you can have a well balanced team and powerful Pokemon.

• 3.How to EV Train

EV training is very simple once you get in the pattern of it.

The way you EV train is by battling a number of Pokemon in a row that give out the EV you want like HP, Attack, Speed, and Ect.... for every four EV you earn you get one stat, so if you repeat it and gain EXP you will get your number of stats when you level up.

EVs are hidden , so this puts a limit on calculating, so you need to keep track of each Pokemon.

Keep in mind that you only get EV for the battles you get EXP from.

(That means even battling trainers)

Another good way is to check with Pokesav to make sure you have your EV's in the right places and helps for if you loose count.

• 4.Some Pokemon give more than 1 EV!

Here is a little tip to keep in mind while training.

Some Pokemon give out 2 of the same EVs or give out two different EVs!

A good example would be Skarmory that give out 2 defense EVs for battling it.

In this section is some tips on how to boost training.

• A.Pokerus

Pokerus is a helpful and very rare virus that doubles the EVs your Pokemon gains.

This virus is a very important part of EV training, it makes things go alot faster.

You can get this virus one out of two ways.

1. You catch a Pokemon that has it.

2. battle with a Pokemon that has it.

While in your party it will spread to another Pokemon.

There is one downside to this virus, it only last 24 hours to spread it and can be kept by having the Pokemon in

the BOX and not in your party. The chance of getting Pokerus is a very slim chance.

(With Macho your EV are 4x what you normally would get.)

• B.Macho Brace

The macho Brace works just the same as Pokerus, but with one downfall

and that is your speed is dropped. (With Pokerus your EV are 4x what you normally would get.)

• C.Power Items

The Power Items add 4 EVs for every Pokemon battled,

even if they don't give out those EVs.. The items are as followed.

Power Anklet: Speed

Power Band: Sp.DEF

Power Belt: Defense

Power Bracer: Attack

Power Lens: Sp.ATK

Power Weight: HP

• D.Pokemon need vitamins too

Another way to help EV train is to buy vitamins for your Pokemon.

Each one gives 10 EVs to the stat they are for.

They each cost $9800 and are not always worth it.

Calcium: Sp.ATK

Carbos: Speed

HP Up: HP

Iron: Defense

Protein: Attack

Zinc: Sp.DEF

There are also some that have other effects and are as followed.

PP Up: Raises the maximum PP of one move of a selected Pokemon.

PP Max: Max out the PP of one move of selected Pokemon.

Rare Candy: Raises a single Pokemon's level by one.

• 2.How to keep a stream of a Pokemon.

When EV training and you want the same Pokemon over and over there is

a device in Diamond and Pearl that can help keep a stream of one kind of Pokemon.

• A.Poke' Radar

The Poke' Radar is a device in D/P that allows you to keep a stream of one kind of Pokemon.

By using the device in a patch of grass it will move and when you enter the grass that moved a wild Pokemon will appear and if you catch of defeat the Pokemon the grass will move in more places and you have a chance to see the same Pokemon again and again (That is called a chain).

It is better to go with the grass that moved the farthest away from you to get the same Pokemon.

This helps when you want to EV using one type of Pokemon and its sometimes hard to find.

(While doing this if you see one of the patches sparkle silver go to it! It will be a SHINY

Pokemon)

• B.VS. Seeker

The VS. Seeker alows you battle people who you have already battled before.

This is helpful for battles with trainers that have Pokemon you need to battle for EVs in a large amount

| A.What are IV's and What They Affect |

IV's stand for "Individual Vales" which is a random number from each stat ranging from 0-31.

This number stands for how many extra that stat will have overall, when is reaches lvl.100.

The higher each EV means the better it will be in that stat. Say you went into a battle with a

level 100 Raichu and the other trainer sends out the same thing. You where to use Mud-slap

which is super effective (Yes Raichu can learn Mudslap in Platinum) and brings the other Raichu

down 3/4th of the way in HP, but the other Raichu uses the same attack and it brings you down

all the way for the knock out. Later on you find out the Pokemon where EV trained the same way,

but his is stronger in some areas. This is where IV's come into play.

Chances are your Raichu has a lower IV Sp.Def and (or) the other Raichu has a high Sp.Atk in IV's.

In short terms this determines the Pokemon's max limit in stats when it reaches lvl.100.

Simple Example

·Each IV gives one extra stat point.

·Pokemon that have been caught in the wild tend to low IV’s,

while Pokemon that have been breed tend to have higher IV’s and

are also to a point based on the Parent Pokemon used.

| B. How to Find What IV's Your Pokemon Have |

When finding the IV of your Pokemon you must keep track of how many EV's your Pokemon has gained and in what stats,

then use the D/P IV Calculator found here.

(Note: The higher the level of the Pokemon, the better chance it is correct.)

A easy way to find a single Iv is under your Pokemon's summery.

You will find what looks like a random fact about the Pokemon and how it acts.

This is determined by the IV in one of the stats and are as followed.

This can give you a good early view into what IV it has in one stat.

It is a sure fire way of find out your IV's without have to do a lot of math or mess with a calculator of any kind.

| C. Nature Values |

Another thing in the game that decides a stat increase by

10% in one stat and decrease of 10% in another stat in the

nature of the Pokemon. There are natures that give no help

what so ever because the increase and decrease the same stat negating the effect of it.

This also affects the Pokeblock or Poffin the Pokemon hates and loves.

Putting 255 EVs into a stat is just wasting points, since you need 4 EVs to raise a point, and 255 is not divisible by 4
