HypermanEX Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 So yeah...This is my team for the VGC tournament this year. Any comments would be appreciated. BTW, it's a doubles team. • Mienshao @ Focus Sash • Inner Focus • Jolly • 4 HP/252 ATK/252 Spe - Hi Jump Kick - U-Turn - Fake Out - Taunt One of the first two Pokes I start with. Usually fakes out the Poke that tries to set up, then either Hi Jump Kick to oblivion or U-Turn the hell out of there. • Thundurus @ Lum Berry • Prankster • Timid • 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe - Thunderbolt - Focus Blast - Thunder Wave - Taunt Stops setters, then paralyzes or attacks. • Hydreigon @ Life Orb • Levitate • Timid • 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe - Dragon Pulse - Dark Pulse - Fire Blast - Surf My Special Sweeper. Usually partnered with Serperior after Mienshao U-turns or faints. Takes out what the partner Poke can't. • Haxorus @ Leftovers/Dragon Gem • Mold Breaker • Jolly • 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe - Outrage - Earthquake - Rock Slide - Dragon Dance/Protect My physical sweeper. Switches in with Mienshao if the opponent's Pokes are special walls or if Rock Slide/Earthquake is a good move to use. Only issue with Haxorus is if it is partnered with Hydreigon and hits it with Earthquake. Replacements • Serperior @ Light Clay • Contrary (Until I get one from Dream World, it's Overgrow) • Timid • 100 HP/156 SpA/252 Spe - Leaf Storm/Giga Drain - Taunt - Reflect - Light Screen My dual screener. Taunts the setters, sets up screens, then it Leaf Storms or Giga Drains to oblivion. Another physical sweeper perhaps? Just a reminder, the tournament uses an Item Clause, and only 5th gen Pokes can be used. All comments are appreciated.
Kaphotics Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 No protect = fail "Contrary (Until I get one from Dream World, it's Overgrow)" Not this year. Screens are pretty much useless. Super weak to ice (thundurus and Jellicent = gg) All out attack team may win you a few rounds, but you won't be getting to the prize zone with that team
Sabeta Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Quick Comment You need Reshiram, none of the other 5th gen legends can match him. After that I suggest you get one more Uber, since you kinda need two to compete with others. Conkeldurr and Ferrothorn will be EVERYWHERE, can you beat them? I recommend a special attacker, access to Psychic Moves, and either Fighting or Fire Moves (Fighting moreso than Fire) It needs to both A) Outspeed Conkel and B) Somehow survive one Mach Punch It should be able to OHKO Ferrothorn as well. Reshiram can probably do all of that, except without a special attack.
Kaphotics Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 That was last year, they progressively allow you to use more things each year.
HypermanEX Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 Sabeta, your suggestion has led me to think of one Pokemon: Chandelure. I think I'll try implementing one instead of Hydreigon.
Sabeta Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Chandelure can't handle Stone Edge or Payback from Conkeldurr, and lacks the raw power to OHKO it on most occasion, especially if invested specially.
aquaguy34 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Hydreigon can't be hit by Earthquake due to levitate. AS someone mentioned earlier, you have no defenders to protect against incoming attacks.
OmegaDonut Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Hydreigon can't be hit by Earthquake due to levitate. AS someone mentioned earlier, you have no defenders to protect against incoming attacks. Hydreigon still gets hit by your own Haxorus' Earthquake because of Mold Breaker. There will be no new DW-ability Unova Pokemon this year, you can be sure about that. They're not shaking up the metagame with new sets this year (like they did when those three shiny legendaries were introduced last year).
