In the games Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver, after defeating Falkner at Violet City Gym, Professor Elm will send his aide to Violet City's Pokemon Mart, for the player to pick up and hatch.
As per any egg gift, it has a chance of being shiny when traded to another trainer with the correct TID/SID combo.
