Previously I wrote a comment, I perhaps should've waited a bit and played more first. I started with the Colosseum version, as I know Colosseum a bit better than XD. I was gonna play the XD one after beating Colosseum. But that probably won't happen because I don't like the way this hack was approached. What I like are the changes to Smeargle's base stats (because battles are quite slow in the GC games so grinding is kinda painful, which you will need to do a lot of lategame with Smeargle's usual stats) but even more so, the fact that they start with 4 Sketches, and their new ability, Trace. Trace shenanigans are fun and I'm surprised Smeargle can't actually have trace in canon Pokemon games. What I don't like is pretty much everything else. You start, of course, with two Smeargles in place of Umbreon and Espeon. My first problem is that like the Umbreon and Espeon, they're not at the same level. 26 and 25 respectively. An important thing to do in a Smeargle run is to decide what kind of builds you want to give each Smeargle based on their stats. But you can't easily compare the stats of the Smeargles if they're not the same level. Because of this, I think it would be better for them to both be at level 25 when you start. Which brings me to... the way you get the other Smeargles. The way you get the other Smeargles is they are Shadow Pokemon, you snag them. As of the Pyrite Building, which is what I got up to before writing this review and may be quitting, I snagged 3 Smeargles; my party consists of 5 Smeargles. The Shadow Smeargles all appear to have the same (perfect?) IVs, and a neutral nature. This bothers me for two different reasons. One, giving them all fixed perfect IVs and a neutral nature ruins the fun of deciding which Smeargle should be the special attacker, which Smeargle should be the physical attacker, the support, etc. Two, more importantly, the starter Smeargles did not get this treatment. The starter Smeargles have a random nature and random IVs. Chances are, your starters are significantly worse than the Shadow Smeargles even if you reset for good ones (which would be a pain to do because you have to soft reset for two Pokemon rather than one). It makes me hope that later on there will be two more Shadow Smeargles to replace my starters with that will have perfect stats. I think if you'eegna make the Shadow Smeargles perfect you may as well make the starters perfect too. In XD this wouldn't be so bad since you only have one starter, but after many resets for good IVs you're still goimg to have a Smeargle that's inferior to the ones you snag. And of course there's the issue I discussed earlier. Even if they were given random IVs and natures like the starter Smeargles, they're not the same level so you cannot compare their stats to assign them their roles. And you don't get them all at the same time, so they won't have any EVs but your starter Smeargles would. Another annoyance is because the Smeargles are shadow, they have one of their precious move slots taken up by Shadow Rush, which is annoying in Colosseum because it takes so long to actually be able to purify the Smeargles. I am sure this is also not as annoying in XD, possibly not annoying at all because in XD you have access to purification pretty much right away. I understand that you probably got the idea to have Smeargles gradually added to the game (via needing to snag them as shadow mon) because starting with 6 would make it too easy at the start especially with their stat buff, but to compensate you could make them all a bit lower leveled than 25 maybe. For me, with all that I would much rather play vanilla Colosseum with my party hacked to have 6 Smeargles from the start, like what Pikasprey did. (Not that I can do that since I don't know how to hack. So, yeah this was pretty disappointing to me. 3 stars because it's certainly playable, people might not find all those things I complained about annoying, but I found them annoying.)
  1. I just started playing the Colosseum one. Where do you get the other 4 Smeargles? I assumed you'd start with 6 like Pikasprey's game except without needing to hack them in. That's very disappointing because I'd like to be able to plan from the start what kind of build each of my Smeargles will have. Where do you get the rest of them?
  2. Let me just say I am so excited to play this. I haven't played it yet, I'm waiting a for a later update, been checking this page every once in a while to see the updates. I downloaded it today not to play, but to see the documentation. And I want to ask, why were the weather TMs replaced? Is there some other way to teach Pokemon weather moves, like a tutor? Because in vanilla I always enjoyed running Sunnybeam Meganium and I don't want to be forced to use Ninetales or Torkoal in order to access sun if I want to do that. (And in this, Ninetales and Meganium are both Fairy type so if if I want to do that without type overlap, I have to use Torkoal.) Just an example, I think the weather TMs (except Hail because who uses Hail) should've been kept in. And speaking of which, Vulpix/Ninetales should still have access to Flash Fire. Sure, most people run Drought on them, but if you want to use them but not have a sun team, there's no way around it. Torkoal can still have Shell Armor, so could Ninetales also have Flash Fire?
  3. I personally am not a fan of the egg mechanic as I find it too tedious to get what you want (since the species is random), which is why I made that suggestion, however I do see your point though. I'm not sure how this would be pulled off, but maybe, as a compromise to preserve the importance of eggs, only allow the hero and partner to access the egg move tutor? The egg move mechanic is mostly unfair to the hero and partner in particular anyway, because you can't just replace them with a hatched individual with the desired egg moves. The hero and partner will never, ever have access to their egg moves, except the one they might've had at the start.
  4. I ADORE this hack and I'm having so much fun with it. I love PMD Sky so much and this makes it even better. I'm just about to begin the expedition and I'm psyched to not have to worry about my recruits falling behind in levels during this part. Do you mind if I make some suggestions for future things to add? These are just suggestions, I don't know how hard these would be to do but here's some I thought of while playing. - Renaming recruits. I hate when I come up with a better nickname for a recruit later but there's no way to change it. Or if I have nothing in mind immediately for the name I can just put it on the backburner for later and continue playing the game. PMD DX lets you do this and it was great. - Favorite recruits. I don't know if this is possible, but it would be cool if you could "star" certain recruits so they always show up on top of the assembly list. - Move tutors. Especially an egg move tutor. I think it would be really cool if Pokemon had access to their egg moves. I know Pokemon hatched from eggs can have them, but that is the only way to get egg moves on Pokemon and you can't even choose the moves, or the Pokemon you're even getting for that matter. Mons recruited any other way never have a chance to get egg moves, especially starters. Which brings me to my next suggestion... - Give all heroes/partners one egg move at the start. Modern PMD games do this, but in Sky, only the nonstandard hero/partners get them. This would immensely help out starter Pokemon that have lackluster movepools. In my game my hero is a Cyndaquil and I am hard pressed trying to give her varied move types, whereas her partner Munchlax had the egg move Zen Headbutt at the start. I think the tutors would be really cheap if there was immediate access to it so maybe there could be some item you give in exchange, like how Super Mystery Dungeon has gold bars. I don't know how hard that would be to implement but the simplest might be to add some kind of rare item to the game and they can be given in exchange for the leaning the move. Maybe Gold Ribbons? Then they would have a use.
  5. I love this hack but I have a huge issue with it that hampers my enjoyment of it. Why are the EV training guys in Pyrite so strong? Right before I fought Snattle I was EV training with few problems, but then after beating Snattle I wanted to do it some more, only to find that the Pyrite trainers had a huge boost in power. It's nice getting 9 EVs per fight, except I can't even reliably defeat all 3 with the Pokemon I'm trying to train because they match the power of my Pokemon. Except the construction worker that gives HP EVs, oddly. His mons stayed at level 26, so I have no problem with him. I spent a while giving HP EVs to certain Pokemon because that's the only one I can easily defeat. The special attack EV guy in particular is brutal. Because of his Gengar's Shadow Tag, I can't even swap out to a dummy Pokemon to prevent it from being knocked out and losing out on the EVs. It's infuriating, frankly. I get it's so you gain more EXP, but there are other ways to simply grind EXP with Pokemon up to par with yours. At the very least, please change that guy's Gengar to a different ability. I have to keep resetting the game until Gengar is sent out first so I can kill it before it can kill either of my mons I'm trying to train (which right now involves having my Clefable hold a Wise Glasses to OHKO Gengar with Psyshock... which is a range and if it doesn't KO I have to reset), and then I can swap as needed to make sure my mons get the EVs. I just don't think EV training should be this difficult is all. Speaking of which, sorry if this was already answered, but is there a way to reset EVs in a stat? And if not, will that be added? And, can you make it so the cursor defaults on "Yes" when it asks if you want to continue the save?
  6. Hi, love the idea of this, but being on a Windows, I'm unable to make patches of my own. If it isn't too much trouble, can you make a patch where just the trainers' Pokemon are randomized (random gift Pokemon too), trade evolutions are level 40, and the starters are Marshtomp and Raichu? Make sure Marshtomp replaces Espeon so that way it's level 24 and will therefore still have Water Gun. (It gets Mud Sport at level 25, which would replace Water Gun in its moveset.) Only if it's not too much trouble, I understand if you're busy! EDIT: Or can anyone with a Mac do that for me? I'd really appreciate it!
