I know this thread is listed as JPN incompatibility but was the US version also included as an issue? I have what appears to be a v2 ARDS from the images linked before. It had firmware 1.54 and like everyone else can't write 1.6 or 1.71 to it. I downloaded this 1.55 firmware and threw it on. I copied the Pokemon White codes (again US) and just for kicks tried the complete pokedex code. The game started, I pressed select like the code said and it worked...
I shut the DS off afterwards as I didn't want to taint my game (yet), I have no idea if this information is of any value but I can keep doing some more fooling around with the 1.55 firmware. I also didn't try on 1.54 so I don't know if it also would have worked for some codes but not for others.
After upgrading to 1.55 I still was unable to upgrade beyond that, but that was an expected outcome, the newer firmwares just aren't supposed to be loaded onto this device.
