  1. Hi, and welcome, I'm also new around here. =)

I also got into the TCG, but stopped playing/collecting after Neo Destiny. I still have them laying somewhere around my room within a box gathering dust. I remember playing at school during recess. Good times.

  2. LOL, yeah, it does make a good excuse. =P

I tried NetBattle ages ago, used to be on it almost daily, almost always running different teams. Then after a while I had to fix my computer where system recovery had to be done losing all programs in the process. After that, I haven't bothered installing much programs, but taking into account I've recently installed some I found here, installing SB wouldn't seem like a bad idea. =) The scenery change might be beneficial indeed.

  3. Thanks, glad to meet you. =)

And yeah, I consider myself a competitive player, but like I said, almost 3yrs out of Pokémon has really rusted me up. It's kind of hard to explain, really, but I think a friend of mine explained it better than me recently by saying that I simply have "competitive flu". That probably doesn't even make sense, but I'm sure I'll get back to it eventually.

Shoddy Battle has been something I've pondered on, as I used to use NetBattle, but I feel a bit lethargic about it. I do reckon it could remedy my "competitive flu".

Anyways, nice to meet you, Tbird; you'll definitely see me around. =)

  4. No, there isn't a Ghost/Psychic yet. A Bug/Fire is possible, and I wouldn't see why there can't be a Dragon/Ice either. Truth be told, as far as appearances go, Reshiram definitely looks like a Dragon/Ice PKMN.

Also, I wouldn't mind some "retypings" myself.

Luxray definitely looks like an Electric/Dark PKMN; Stantler has this Girafarig vibe to it, so adding a Psychic typing wouldn't seem odd; and wouldn't it be cool if Gengar lost it's Poison typing? Yeah, too awesome, but highly unlikely. I can dream...

Anyway, on a slightly different subject, way back during the RB* days, when I saw Kangaskhan for the first time, I was under the impression it was a Rock-type, just because of the way it looks.

    *Red Robin! YUM!!

  5. First encounter was in Gold and it was either a Rattata or Geodude, but I always can't seem to remember which exactly; I had many, but the battery died and so did those that I didn't transfer to Stadium 2. Same story with Silver, but less shiny ones, although I played Gold the most. As for Crystal I still have some, but I haven't bothered to finish the game; I soft reseted for a Totodile far more times than I could count sheep, and I also bred a shiny Dratini, which I instantly used.

RSE, FR/LG, and DP helped me further my collection, but by then and now shiny PKMN had become more of a joke due to how easier they're to hunt and breed (and hack). I do own Platinum and HG/SS, but I haven't played them as much as I do Diamond and Pearl (although Pearl at a lesser extent).

  6. Are you inputting the code manually by any chance? Often times that's the culprit behind bad eggs.

Could you perhaps post the .pkm? I get a bunch of gibberish when I try to access the PKMN you made using the code you provided.

  7. Riolu's words are true; it sounds like the thing gave all it could. The basketball may have not damaged it physically, but internally it's a whole different story--those cartridges can take a hit, but the blunt force can damage what's within. I have a few friends who experienced something similar with either of their RBY copies.

As for Missingno., it's been long since I played RBY, but IIRC, depositing it in any of the PC Boxes then saving the game is what usually causes the game to crash for good. However, I remember my Blue version didn't work properly after around a month of so of messing with Missingno. Doing the trick, however, isn't dangerous to your game.

And the screen will still appear regardless, think of it as if you turn the GB on while not having a game inserted.

EDIT: I just noticed the date of this thread, my apologies for the necro-bump.

  8. I'm up for triple battles, God only knows how much I enjoy 2vs2, so 3vs3 certainly adds a new layer of awesome. Heck, I'm pumped for a new Gen. of PKMN; however, to be perfectly honest, some of these new PKMN just look bad, and I'm not talking about the starters, I like them, even the sea otter; but the ones that were recently revealed... I dunno... =/ And granted, the preview images aren't of the best quality, but still.

  9. Ah, the nostalgia of the RBY days. I remember way back then being at school and hearing for the first time about the item duplication trick from a friend. After learning how to do it I abused the hell out of it, and then force fed rare candies and vitamins to my PKMN. Remember the rare candy myth? I also remember the countless rumors regarding "new" PKMN that could be obtained only by doing stuff like talking to someone a number of times or beating the E4 more than 100 times and such. PKMN like Pikablu (Marill) and then Togepi; in fact, I remember at the time having read an article in a gaming magazine about Togepi being in RB, which nowadays I think about it and can't help but laugh.

Another truly nostalgic aspect of the RBY games is the music; I get flooded by nostalgia every time I hear the theme from Viridian Forest.

    Gotta love the yesteryears.

  10. >.>; Well I'd be... It obviously makes sense now. /facepalm

In my defense, I've been out of PKMN for quite some time now (ever since late 2007), and basically having found your program was one of the reasons that got me back to it--actually, is quite ironic because back then I despised those that used Pokesav and look at me now... It certainly is a fun program to use, though.

Anyways, thanks for the clarification, guess I did everything right after all, but I learned something new along the way and joined what seems to be a nice community. Keep up the good work! =)

  11. Oh certainly, I read the tooltips... But now that I actually re-read it: traded PKMN will always have the "apparently" tag? Pardon my ignorance, but I was under the perception that when it said that it usually meant that the PKMN was "hacked" some way or the other.

  12. [...]

It's most likely that you've used the wrong nickname characters. The encounter type has nothing to do with Pokemon being seen as belonging to the trainer. It's based on 4 things: trainer gender, the two trainer IDs, and the trainer name. Nothing else affects it. I can't say I'm 100% sure about this, but I'm pretty sure the game checks only the characters in the trainer name up to the first 0xFFFF value. Anything beyond that may be ignored. (PokeGen puts in 0xFFFF for you if you don't fill in all 8 characters.) If you read a few posts back, someone else had a similar problem with the trainer name. They were using the Japanese alphanumeric characters instead of the US ones. There's no need to use the character map if you're simply typing in an English name with a-z/A-Z/0-9. (Some other characters are supported directly as well, but I don't remember exactly which ones.)

Thanks for the reply, first and foremost.

Regarding the character map, I read those posts you make mention of, however, as I stated, I didn't make use of it; I type each PKMN nickname and name. As mentioned I did everything accordingly, so I really don't have a clue as to what I might have done wrong. I didn't enter any SIDs, though, if that's of any help. The TIDs are from different people, so I've now idea what the SIDs would be.

  13. Greetings and salutations to everyone!

Firstly, I would like to congratulate you, Codr, for such an amazing program; it definitely beats Pokesav any time of the day. In fact, I have never utilized this type of programs, so I have to say that it is truly user-friendly, and for that alone I commend you. I certainly hope to see further iterations of it in the future—certainly others could use your work as example.

With that said, I’m here hoping for a shed of light regarding a small hiccup I’ve come across with. Truth be told, I don’t particularly believe it’s that big of a deal taking into account that the program has worked for me like a charm ever since I first used it, but it’s still something I get bothered with no matter how insignificant it might be. You see, I wanted to copy some of my friends’ shinies, the ones from Sinnoh, but each and everyone end up with the "apparently" tag.

Now, you’re certainly the one most apt to tell me if I’m doing everything right (or wrong), but, so far, I’ve done everything as I should; I believe the problem lies in the "Encounter" fields.

NOTE: All Pokémon are set at the exact location and level that you encounter them. Let me know if the following are correct.

    Dialga and Palkia:

    • Encounter: Dialgia/Palkia

    Heatran/Regigigas/Arceus:

    • Encounter: Cave/Hall of Origin/Giratina

    Cresselia/Darkrai:

    • Encounter: Tall Grass/Darkrai

    Manaphy:

    • Location: Pokémon Ranger

    • Encounter: it hatched in Jubilife City (Fateful encounter checked)

    Shaymin:

    • Encounter: Egg/Pal Park/Event/Honey Tree/Shaymin

Not sure if you’d need further info, but as far as the rest of the Pokémon goes, PIDs were searched; I didn’t use the character map for nickname (or name); TIDs were entered correctly; encounter dates were entered correctly; game where the creatures come from (Origin) also entered correctly, as well as country...everything is in order, really. I simply listed the encounter fields because I’m guessing there’s where the problem stems from, although I might be wrong...

Any help will certainly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  14. ...because lurking tends to be boring after a week or two.

Hi there everyone! Finally decided to break the ice after some time of lurking around trying to get acquainted with the place. Like many of you I've been a fan of Pokémon since day one and have been playing the games since then; I may be growing older as the days go by, but this game just doesn't age at all for me. Ironically, though, I sort of took a "break" at the end of 2007 and didn't touch any Pokémon games since then, which literally rusted my gears; they say you never forget how to ride a bicycle, but man can you fall from it a few times before getting used to it again. Thankfully I recently picked up the games, so hopefully I'll renew myself.

So yeah, guess that's all I have to say at the moment; I'm not much for introductory posts... But you'll get to know me more as I post and stay around, which I hope to do because online forums are another thing I took a "break" from, too some odd years ago.

Glad to meet you all; see you around.
