Anytime a game designer tries buffing something, they end up overpowering it... and nerfing something ends up making it totally unusable sometimes. It seems to be the case for most games. For example, look at Scizor. A modest sturdy baton passing bug became the metagame's #1 revenge killer. Now it sets up, scouts, you name it. Because of him, stuff like Weavile and Heracross went out of existence... only because they added that one move Bullet Punch. Take that one move away and... it's back to its regular borderline bug. What can you say?

But be warned, sometimes it takes ONE aspect to completely change a player (my brother cannot get over Eliminate Pro's scariest weapon's nerf. The gun Menacer Pro was the most broken weapon in the game and took no skills to use. However, just by changing its rate of fire while retaining its other scary properties made it an unusable weapon.)
