I am very aware that I am years late to this topic, but I was having the same issue. And for all future searchers, I want to post my actual fix for the save file issue. On the Flashboy Cyclone device, there is a switch on the PCB that changes the device from GBC to GBA mode. I had already tried every option listed in this and a several other threads, but this little switch was the only thing that fixed all of the issues I had with the file being unreadable.
