On January 14th, 2014, the dreams of Pokémon Trainers all over the world were lost.
This was the day that Generation V's 'Dream World' was shut down for good.

For those unfamiliar, the Dream World was a section of the Pokémon Global Link website players could connect to using their copies of Pokémon Black & White and Pokémon Black 2 & White 2.

Players could tuck their Pokémon into bed via the C-Gear, and then have them partipate in flash minigames to earn 'Dream Points'.
Dream Points could also be obtained by participating in berry growing, or making friends by visiting another players customizable house.
However, the Dream World was most notable for the distribution of several exclusive hidden abilities, as well as Legendary and Mythical Pokemon, such as Arceus - all of which were housed in a special 'Dream Ball'.

It was, in essence - an extension of the Generation V games.

And this is where the history lesson would normally end...

However, a developer by the name of shutterbug2000 is taking it upon himself to restore the Dream World back to its former glory.
shutterbug is no stranger to these kind of projects, having played an important role in the creation of Kaeru WFC - a 'hackless' solution to playing DS and DSi games online again via Wiimmfi; an alternative service to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (WFC) post-shutdown.
As well as some important contributions to the 'Pretendo Network', a recreation of several game servers for the 3DS and Wii U.

But there's a slight snag -- He needs your help!
The Dream World was made up of several Adobe flash files that it used primarily for graphical assets; while many of these have been recovered, there are still several missing!

If you have an old PC or laptop you've ever played the Dream World on, or maybe even an old Hard Drive, please use the following guide to lend a hand:

Simply run the Flashpoint Cache Exporter on the computer you played on and upload your cache to help find missing files!

If you're unsure whether the program has found any missing files, the Dream World files, check to see if you have any files from cdn.pokemon-gl.com (not a direct link).

After a few hours of being offline, we're finally back! Not only are we on a shiny new server, we have some new goodies:

The Dark Theme

As most programmers can tell you, light themes are, well, too light. This new dark theme, which you're probably already using now that it's the default, was carefully chosen to be easier on your eyes and blend with our existing aesthetic.

If you don't like it and want to go back to the old one, then don't panic! Simply scroll to the bottom of the page, and there's a theme selector at the bottom left of the page. Choose "Site Theme" if you want our previous default, or choose "IPS Default" for maximum brightness.

No More Ads

For years, this site has been funded with the bane of the internet: advertisements. However, thanks to the generous donations of our Patrons on Patreon, we no longer need to rely on advertisements, so we have disabled them for everyone. 

As always, we'll continue to work to make the site even better than it is. We'd love your help by giving us your thoughts and feedback. We also have some open moderator positions for anyone who is interested.

We've just finished installing some upgrades to the forums. Here's an overview of some of the new features:

Search

The old search system was rather slow, and it only showed you what you wanted part of the time. This update fixes that. Rather than bore you with the technical details of how it works, I encourage everyone to try it out. Registered members should also notice a significant speed improvement in the Unread Content page, which previously took an unacceptable 6 to 10 seconds to load, and now takes a far more reasonable 1 to 3 seconds.

Emoji

The editor now has full emoji support . This means all* the emoji available in Unicode can be used , as well as some custom images previously seen as reactions .

* New emoji are always being introduced, so "all" might not mean "all", instead meaning "most". Still significantly more emoji than we had before.

Clubs

• There's a new club type called "Read-Only" lets everyone see what goes on in your club, but requires people to be manually added before posting anything.
• You can now change the club type without having to ask us to do it. You can also change the club owner if you so desire.
• Clubs can have a custom home page, whose content is set through a WYSIWYG editor.
• Club features (topics, images, etc.) can be reordered.
• Club forums (aka topics) can be in Q&A format. Only new club forums can be set this way; if you would like an existing club forum set this way, please create a thread in the support forum.

Other

• The site theme was rewritten, offering some slight improvements and fixing some minor issues. There may still be more issues, so please leave feedback if you find any.

Previous Additions

Over the past few months, I've silently made various changes to things. You may have noticed some of these, but others are fairly recent. Here's an overview, ordered from earliest to most recent:

• There's a new testing forum that you can use to try out our WYSIWYG editor. Only you can see what you post.
• The Forums index was restructured to reduce bloat.
• Members without an avatar are given a dynamically-generated one, consisting of the first letter of their usernames as well as a random color.
• Our guides now live in the new Tutorials section.

We'll continue to work to make the site even better than it is now, but to most effectively do that, we want your opinions. If you see something you like or something you don't, please don't be shy, and let us know what you think by creating a thread in the feedback forum. Additionally, if you want to directly help make the site a better place, check out our applications page where we have some open staff positions.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have been released today, and with them comes some relevant site updates.

For the past few months, we've been working on a Pokédex containing information from Pokémon Sun and Moon, and we're now ready to release it along with support for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. From here we will continue working to make it even better, so all feedback is appreciated, including feature requests and bug reports.

A few weeks ago, we opened a new section to house information about games like Pokémon Sun and Moon. Thank to our pages team and some helpers, we're now ready to open a subsection for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. This section will be updated periodically as new information is discovered and documented, and if you would like to help write some of these pages, we have some openings on our Pages Team. Anyone interested should fill out the application after registering and reaching a post count of 50.

Staff

We have some new additions to our staff: @Cecillia has joined our News Team, and @Reisyukaku has become a moderator of the ROM and RAM editing forums.

Our Official Art Competition has ended, and the winner is @Jovie. He was been awarded a special username color, and we will award him a special badge shortly. We will update our social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Patreon, etc.) to use his wonderful artwork within the next few days. Thank you to all who participated, and stay tuned for future site updates.

• Pages Team - This team writes about features of games, such as what the Festival Plaza in Pokémon Sun and Moon is, what starter Pokémon are available in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, or perhaps even strategy guides for certain items. We would especially like help with writing up new features in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
• News Team - This team posts info about current events on our homepage and serves as a moderator of the news forums. With the impending release of the new games, there will be no shortage of news to report.
• Moderator of RAM forums - We are currently looking for a moderator to look over the RAM forums, serving general moderator duties and helping with a special project involving moving hundreds of threads around as we restructure some forums.

For years, we've used IRC as our primary instant messaging service. Now, we have a Discord guild where you can discuss anything.

Advantages of Discord over IRC:

• Cross platform - use it on desktop, mobile, or in a web browser
• More formatting options, including the same reactions as what we have in the forums

Project Pokémon gets its funding from two sources: advertisements and administrators. Nobody likes advertisements, and things can get expensive when only a few people bankroll a dedicated server. Speaking of sneak-peeks of upcoming features, one new feature that's been in the works for quite a while is now ready. Today, we introduce our Image-dex. Here, you can find a collection of Pokémon images from various games and generations.

Art Competition

We need a new banner and icon for things like Twitter, Facebook, and Patreon, so we're holding an art competition. The winner will be awarded a special username color on the forums and Discord, a forum badge, and credit wherever the image is used. Details are in the art competition thread:

We've always had a Like button, but sometimes a Like doesn't quite express how you truly feel about a post. With reactions, you can react in one of many ways. Here's what we have so far:

•  Amazed - For things so amazing your eyes start watering out of sheer happiness.
•  Teary-Eyed - Sometimes bad news makes you want to cry.
•  Confused - Eh.. what?

The Blog Sidebar

We recently got Blogs, which are basically your personal corner of the website. Now you can customize it even further with the ability to add a sidebar. This can be used for anything you'd like, including social media links or a blog overview. On my Sky Editor blog, I'm using it to keep track of my GitHub links for Sky Editor, my plugin-based save editor:

File Attachment Improvements

You can now upload files and images directly from your computer's file browser, using either drag and drop, or copy/paste.

As described by the Invision Power website:

I've started one where I can post updates about the development of Sky Editor, and I intend to create one soon where Project Pokémon staff can share sneak-peaks of future additions to the site.

First, we have the new Guides section. This is where you can find or post guides on how to do various Pokémon hacking things, such as getting access to your save file for use with PKHeX.

Next, we have the new Pokédex section. @Project Pokémon Bot has been working tirelessly to bring you Pokémon reference data for your enjoyment, spending more than 30 hours over the course of 2 weeks doing nothing but posting thousands of entries to this section, and at the moment, it shows data for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky and Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. Work is already under way to bring data from more games to it, such as Pokémon Sun and Moon. We cannot commit to any particular release date at this time, but rest assured that we are working to ensure it's good and ready.

Finally, @jasenyoface, member of our news team, has been promoted to moderator of all the Pokémon Discussion forums.

There are more surprise additions planned for the near to mid future, but in the mean time, if anyone has any suggestions or is willing to help write articles for our website, please send me a PM or reply to this thread.
