GengarMaster Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I believe at this point I understand how Pokesav works, how to use it and all that. There's a lot of info out there about that. But I've never found out how one goes about with getting the save data from the game cartridge to the computer to edit with Pokesav. I've heard about R4DS and flashcarts, both of which I have limited knowledge of. I'd appreciate if somebody could point my in the right direction, and also tell me where to purchase a flashcart or whatever it is you use. Edit: If it matters I'll be using it chiefly to edit pokemon in Platinum version, perhaps Heartgold version later down the road. And I don't have an Action Replay, at least for a DS.
Shady Guy Jose Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 From a retail cart it's the hardest situation. If you don't have a flashcart you would have to buy an NDS Adaptor Plus to backup your save into your PC and later restore it. People talk about flashcarts a lot here (R4DS is just an example of those, as you seem to think they are two separate things) because since they deal with ROM's, they also generate a .sav file right next to it, like an emulator would, making it the easiest way to use Pokesav, and they also provide software tools to backup retail cart saves (although this doesn't work with some new games, like HG/SS). If you don't know what a flashcart is at all: put simply, it's a device that lets you play homemade programs or backed up commercial games in your actual DS.
