Hello! I am new to this whole save file thing and recently I have been trying for the past 2 weeks to extract a save from my friends sd card. I have access to the 3ds that the save was originally created on thought there are some issues:

I made the necessary backups and created a complete backup of the entire sd card on my pc. I then completely reinstalled cfw which I now have learned is the absolute last resort. I was using a few tools to try and decrypt the sd card contents because the 3ds now has a new id number if I am not mistaken. When I ran a script I believe my backup folder, which I did not rename (again stupid mistake) I think it removed it. I then used a data recovery tool to recover any data I could off of the sd card and then off of the hard drive where I stored the backup. I eventually got some files though am really lost. I even did a moreover but the saves are all broken when using savedatafiler or a 3ds run application. I created new saves and reinstalls of the titles with no luck.

What I have done is decrypted the SD card through ninfs and was able to get the Nintendo 3ds Folder to Mount though now I am not sure what to do. I used save3ds I believe and was able to get a few successful decrypts of sd contents and saves though when I tried to load them into Pkhex they are invalid. Something to note maybe is when I use pksm and try to add a save file from the sd card, it only shows up as eggs and no trainer info etc.

Sorry if none of this is at all helpful, I am willing to do whatever I can to try and fix this as it is totally my fault.

Thank you in advance. Im not attaching any files because I'm not sure which to attach without voiding my security.

Not sure I’m getting this right, but the 3DS was reformatted and when the existing saves for decrypted on the reformatted 3DS, became trash?

would you happen to have any 3DS nand dumps before the system format?
