Guest Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 (edited) Initially I wanted to just have a Pokemon game where I got all my favorite mons in it, but then as I was coming to grips with what HexManiacAdvanced can actually do? Well, I mean you can see the screenshots for yourself :3 Been working on this on and off in my free time, mostly in those times my frequent depression just saps out all desire to actually work on my Underhell webcomic and other big projects. Despite my struggles with HexManiacAdvanced (including being told no one in the rom hacking community gives a crap about Pokemon Sapphire/Ruby meaning no one could help me with the first version causing me to restart the whole thing from scratch with Emerald), I've actually been getting the hang of it okay. Still haven't fully tested it yet, (replayed the first chapter so many times just to make sure it even works with my few changes). Hopefully I can get to a point where I can really get to the other changes I made and see if they even work. Guest Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Okay so, update....... Was playtesting it.....there's a serious bug that triggers when you switch Pokemon in certain areas with new Trainers. Suddenly you're in control of a nearby NPC, even one that is off camera. It only resets after you go into a doorway but pfft good luck with that if the NPC is off screen. It even triggers after battle. Pretty huge bug that I have no idea why is happening and no idea how to fix. So....this hack is fished. I have no idea how to fix it. Turns out HexManiacAdvanced is a bigger garbage fire of coding than was promised. And I have no one to help me, no one wants to help me, they all just see me as a waste of their time. So this hack is dead. I'm just utterly defeated right now. But of course no one cares, apparently because I don't sugar coat my responses, baby everyone I talk to and "be nice" I'm not human enough to deserve any empathy from the general Pokemon Rom Hack community. It's always my fault this kind of thing happening, I just needed to have been a rom hack programming protegee from a young age, or better yet not have been born neurodivergent so I can actually learn this stuff better like a normal person can! Just have to get gud scrub! I just..........I'm talking to no one right now aren't I? Place is a ghost town isn't it? People can ask me for stuff all the time and I HAVE to answer! I'm SUPPOSE to answer back! I'M SUPPOSE to give them what they want even when I can't or don't have the answer they're looking for! But I ask for anything? Pfft, no one has any obligation to even look my way. I'm nobody. Story of my life. Something goes seriously wrong, I actually need help, no one's there..... Anyway this crappy hack is canned.

Another notch to put on how horrible an experience I've had interacting with the Rom Hacking Community thus far..... Anyway it turns out I fell victim to the incompetence of the morons who made HexManiacAdvanced putting in a feature to let you take control of NPCs for some idiotic reason. So I might be able to revive this project....unless another goddamn bug crops up involving adding in new trainers. Noticed that the one Aroma Lady Rose trainer rematches wound up all fished up, replaced , as if adding new trainers causes other data to be deleted outright so that'll be fishing fun to figure out. In the meantime here's another demo of what little progress I've made since then, got more of the actual Pokemon stats altered as I wanted to. Frisk in Pokemon Demo.ips
Terry Jones Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Made more progress on my crappy hack. New trainer characters, new mon roster, adjusted movesets and evolve chains to my intended vision, put a band aid on the stupid bike shop, got progress done up to the 5th gym. Encountered some graphical glitches whilst testing on Visual Boy. Feedback is desperately needed and I am begging for help from coders who know what they're doing. Hell if coders wanna drop me an IPS Patch of fixed modifications to my disaster I would really appreciate it. About to risk replacing the free Castform with Supergirl, wish me luck. Joking aside, still not remotely finished but I've made significant progress. In fact I did a significant overhaul of the Mon roster to be more interesting. Bear in mind this requires a version of Pokemon Emerald bumped up to 32MB. I've long since stopped asking for coding help, that's clearly a dead end. But I would appreciate help with test. Because in the two years I've been at this one undeniable truth has been made painfully clear, no one is willing to help me without monetary compensation. Anytime someone tells me stuff like "romhackers will only help on projects they are passionate about" or "just be patient, eventually someone will come around to help you" or other such Charlie Morningstar caliber platitudes like that it's all too obvious what they are actually saying, "F*** off newbie, come back when you have money". I don't even need that much extensive help, just someone who knows how to add at least 150 new slots for Pokemon into Emerald along with the option for Mega Evolutions. Maybe even some more moves and a few basic quality of life features as seen in Unbound and Radical Red.

It isn’t as drastic as you think. The factors you gotta consider are: (1) Gen 3 ROM hacking scene isn’t as big as before, (2) people who were good at it probably aged up by now, has other commitments and responsibilities, and stopped playing Pokemon, (3) the reality is that people only participate in projects they’re personally interested in, and it doesn’t help (in terms of motivation) when the project lead is inexperienced; one can’t be so entitled to expect strangers to sink their time into something they personally aren’t interested in. I imagine it doesn’t help when turn project lead sprinkles snide comments throughout their project pitch or their responses To be frank, anyone can come up with a vision (no matter how small or lofty), and it takes one’s skills and connections to get it moving (4) money, well, sadly is required as it is how the world goes around, though I personally won’t recommend it unless the other party is reputable. (Don’t want people to get scammed) (5) honest question (no judgement, don’t be offended): if this is a “dead website” to you, why bother posting here? I think there’s other sites with slightly active Gen 3 modders (not that it’s much better). From what I’ve seen since your original post, it has been filled by people asking for help, mainly for PKHeX stuff, as well as activity with plugin creation. This is probably why your post hasn’t garnered much responses.. Sorry for the wall of text, I know it’s a lengthy reply. Hope I’ve covered your points across the life of this thread.

Got it >< Frankly I don’t personally know any ROM hackers that accepts commissions. The only one I heard of in recent times is Atsign (don’t know how his name is spelt; the guy that makes fun Gen III romhacks for SmallAnt), however I don’t know how to contact him nor whether he accepts commissions apart from SmallAnt.

I'm not given any other choice but to do it or else I get yelled at, hated, labeled as useless, maybe even punished in some manner. Usually someway violent. Overall not even getting the choice to say no. But anytime I ask for something? I get told I'm being selfish, entitled, forced to take no for an answer, punished in some way for even asking. Even when I offer to pay for help, I'm still told to f' off. Story of my life. Bye.

In any case, since you’re no longer interested I’m locking this thread, and keeping it up for posterity edit: Before I start, let me just say that you’ve put in effort into your solo build, persevering as long as you have, no one can take that away from you. As someone who didn’t know programming and ended up with silly mini plugins, letting you know I see you. Now, last word of advice, please don’t take this the wrong way, this is a honest hand-to-heart advice. It sounds like you’re unknowingly modelling your behaviour off people who asked previously asked you for favours, who maybe even raised you. Having that behaviour is not a good way to live. No matter how they insisted, how they treated you, that is not the way to ask for things, and not the way you should see things, too. Maybe start with a friend that will set you right, and perhaps escalate to a psychiatrist if it does not get better. Please take some time off the toxic internet, and focus on yourself. Take care.
