petfriendamy Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Hey! So recently I've been having fun copying saves to and from my old Pokémon cartridges with my Retron 5. But just now, I encountered something a bit odd—after dumping my save the most recent time and converting it with the Retron 5 converter, I attempted to load it in PKHex and it told me that the file could not be read. Concerned, I tried loading the save in an emulator, but everything appeared to be fine. In fact, after saving via the emulator and opening it back up in PKHex, it read it without issue. Which has me wondering: is there something actually wrong with the save file, or is there a glitch with PKHex that it's not reading it correctly? The last thing I did before dumping the save was make a trade via Colosseum, maybe that has something to do with it? I've attached the supposedly corrupt save file, so maybe someone more knowledgeable about the matter could look at it and give a second opinion. PokemonEmerald.sav

Not dumped correctly or something. When trimmed, it opens in PKHeX fine.
petfriendamy Posted April 24, 2023 Author Posted April 24, 2023 So there were just extra bytes for some reason? Bit weird, but I guess it's better than inexplicably missing data, lol. In any case, I re-dumped the save after doing the same thing I did on emulator (saving the game with no changes) and it came up clean this time, so I guess it must have just been a weird fluke. Thanks! 1
