stopazricky Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Hello everyone! And hello Kaphotics in particular - but anyone is welcome to help I was using PkHex to edit a FR savefile for my brother and I added a Mew in there which I didn't bother to make legal as it was just for gameplay purposes. Then my brother came back to me saying that Mew wasn't obeying. I double checked the OT and it was correct, so I googled what was going on and I stumbled upon the Disobedience Bit. It was legitimately the beginning of a rabbit hole for me. If I understand it correctly, ALL pokémon in 3rd gen games have an Obedience Bit that is set to 0 for all pokémon, but is set to 1 to Mew and Deoxys when they are generated under legal circumstances (for example in Faraway Island, for Mew). The game only checks the obedience bit for those two mythical pokémon in particular, making it so that they disobey the trainer regardless of medals or OT when they have it set to 0 (as the game interprets them as cheat pokémon). I've googled this for a while, and it feels like the most common solution to this is erasing the check from the rom altogether, however I don't have the skillset to do anything close to that. I was going to try to use PkHex to produce a perfectly legal, met at level 30, Japanese Mew from Faraway Island (including somehow finding a valid PID), but if I got this all right, then it actually wouldn't matter how legal I can make it, as its obedience bit will always be set to 0 and the game only checks that bit and not the actual pokémon information. So, to conclude, here's my questions: 1) Can I somehow make an obeying Mew through PkHex? 2) If not, can I directly edit the information of the pokémon manually or through some other software to make Mew obey? And how much work/knowledge would that need? Thanks for your help. P.S. I have a different kind of question as well - did you actually know about the obedience check in FRLG? Because I found a very old thread here in the forum mentioning weirdly disobeying cheat pokémons, and the thread was locked without any satisfactory explanation given to the OP. I look up to the experts in this community so much, that the idea that even they might have missed something, and that I, a complete poké-illiterate, can still encounter that something while casually playing the games in my day to day life, feels almost spiritual. Just how big are these small videogames?!?
Atrius97 Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 The Obedience Bit is labelled in PKHeX as "Fateful encounter" under the Met tab. If you're unsure of how to generate a pokemon, use the encounter database under Tools > Data, set your filters, and hit search. 1
