Can't get Gen 3 (Fire Red) .sav file to open in PkHex

This is my first time using the program so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what.

I'm trying to attempt a randomizer nuzloke in Fire Red, and I'd like to add rare candies to avoid grinding. I've played the randomizer up to Viridian City and caught a pokemon so I could have something to deposit in the PC. I'll save the game, not create a save state in the emulator, and then try to load that save in PkHex. Whenever I do I get this message "Binary is not compatible with save file. Current SAV Generation: 3."

I have PkHex set to Fire Red, and I know I'm uploading a .sav file from Fire Red. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for the help.
