Could anyone help me? I think something is having trouble at the very last step...

I'm trying to move my Crystal cart save to the virtual console using the checkpoint way and when I replace the save file on my SD card and try to load up the game I get: "The game data is corrupted it will now be initialized." My backup works though as I can emulate it on my PC which is cool to know my mons are safe.

I have read that the secure value should be deleted because sometimes that causes this but I did delete that. Nothing seems to change. I have dang near a shiny living dex on my crystal I just want to move to VC because I spent hundreds of hours farming eggs haha.

The reason I want this on virtual console is there are a few mon I feel like are my partner Pokémon I'd want to move up and use in other gens. My fav being my shiny Jynx and Puff whom I used to put wild Pokémon to sleep and catch just cause I liked them more than using Paris stun spore!

Gimme some time. I got the save file on my computer from the cartridge but I'm having power outages from bad storms. I've not used PKHeX but I assume this may mean I need to alter the save file to function on the DS Virtual Console in some way? All I did was try to use the file converter to change it to a sav.dat file.

Alright, sorry for the wait. I can open my save file in PKHex and see all my Pokémon etc. I have an error that says, "Unable to match origin of a Pokémon" Which may be because some of these Pokémon came from Pokémon stadium's storage box from prior games(?) Is this what is holding back my save from working on Virtual Console??

EDIT: Ha I see the Pokémon that is flagged is an Aerodactyl from stadium that knows a move it shouldn't haha. If I take that out will it work???

Do you have the save file (the original one from the cartridge)? Have you tried opening it in PKHeX? If so, doesn’t it open?

I have a theory, and it isn’t related to secure value. But your save needs to be functional.

I forgot to hit the quote button in my reply...

@sleepvertical so your save from the cartridge is working. Hence why it's loading on PKHeX.

However to load it into the 3DS VC, a few things need to happen:
1) The save needs to be named specifically sav.dat
2) Extra bytes at the end needs to be added.

If you provide the save, I can do it for you.

As for Stadium moves, they shouldn't be there, but it's not like the game would freeze up cause they're there.

Okay thank you for the help! This is the sav.dat file. It works in PKHex. It's got some hatched shinies and if this is public I don't care if anyone wants my save file lol.

YES! It worked, thank you so much! Got my brother's Ho-oh from like 2003 (saved in the Pokémon stadium 2 PC box) on modern consoles! Thank you for all your help!!
