Need Help with Mew and National Dex (Gen 3 Emerald to FireRed)

Hi everybody,

this is my first post in this forum, so I apologize upfront if my help request is in the wrong sub forum.

I have a big problem with getting Mew for my original Firered Version and I hope someone here can help me.

I have the original GBA FireRed Version cartridge with a legit beaten save file (obtained the national dex, beaten top 4, able to transfer pkmn from emerald).

I have also original cartridges of Emerald (non beaten save file), Ruby (beaten) and LeafGreen (beaten as well).

Today I received a gba flasher and my goal now is to catch or create Mew on another Emerald save game, load it on my gba flasher and transfer it to my original FireRed (or Ruby) Cartridge.

I was able to put Mew on the Emerald save by catching it on Faraway Island but when i try to trade it with my other cartridges, it states "This Pokémon can not be traded now". I have researched and found out that it might happen because I dont have the National Dex on the Emerald save yet.

So I have tried PKHeX and PokeCrafter Editors now and marked the Events Full Pokedex and National Dex but when I load the game, my pokedex only shows 202 Pokemon instead of the full 386 - which means I still don't have the nationaldex. Somehow it seems to reset the event even though I mark it as completed. What am I doing wrong?

Or is there any other workaround to make Mew being able to transfer from one version to another?

Thanks in advance,

Shirotachi

First of, before I get to solving your Mew problem, it'll do you some good to not use the word "rom". (usage of roms are illegal and our forum doesn't support piracy)
Also, ROM stands for Read Only Memory, meaning it's meant to be read only; cannot be edited.
Technically speaking, your game save is the one that doesn't have the National Dex.

Now, quoting bulbapedia:

Quote

In Pokémon Emerald, after the player enters the Hall of Fame for the first time, when they exit their house in Littleroot Town after resuming their game, Professor Birch and Brendan or May will be waiting for the player. Birch will escort the two of them to his lab, where he will upgrade both of their Pokédexes with the National Mode.

Might be easier to just complete the Pokedex with PKHeX then talk to Birch.
You may want to manually fight E4 (tho you could just hack in Level 100s)

Ok I'm sorry and yes, I find that very reasonable. Of course, I meant my game save :)

Well, it seems that the game does not simply accept having the national dex event flagged since Birch doesn't mention anything about the national dex to me (i'm still at the start of the game but I marked all events flagged, so I thought it would work).

If I knew that the transfer would work after having the national dex, it would be worth playing through Emerald again but is there any chance to try it before? Maybe via a further save game?

You mind uploading your save for us to see?

Sure, I have sent you a pm.

In case somebody else has an idea or wants to take a look at it, let me know and i can send you the file as well!

Interesting, it appears you've already have the Nat Dex flag checked, but it really isn't working.

So, what I've done was use this gameshark code  CE3EF9E9 3C41A95C to warp you to the hall of fame.
And after the credits, you obtain the National Dex! (I've PMed you the save)

Anyway, your Mew isn't going to be Legal, because it wasn't captured on Japanese copy of Pokemon Emerald.
(the event wasn't released outside of Japan)

I was able to test it now and finally it worked!! I'm so happy! Thank you so much for your help! :)

In terms of legality: Well, since my way to obtain it includes cheating, it's not "legal" anyway. But what exactly do you mean? Does the game (FireRed in my case to which I transfer it) understand or notice that this Mew can't be legal or is cheated? Or do you mean in terms of competition? Since I only play Gen 3 for myself, it won't affect anybody/anything else but me and my game save :)

I was playing Gen 1 and 2 back when they were released and Mewtoo and Mew were always my favourite Pokémon. Now I started my brothers' old cartridges to relive that experience on my old GBMicro and I was quite unhappy that Mew can't be caught in Gen 3 as "easy" as it was in R/B (till now). My goal at the moment is to have a legally completed game save on FireRed (Kanto-Dex for now, maybe Johto later) but since Mew can't be caught, I decided to make this one cheat-exception (let's see though... if I decide to catch the remaining 100 Johto-Pkmn, I guess I will have to do it again for Ho-oh, Lugia and Celebi).

I also have HeartGold with a legally obtained Mew from around the time it was released but will play that after I finished Gen 3 :)

Legit refers to obtaining something without glitches or modifications, and
Legal refers to a Pokemon that may be of suspicious origins (glitchs, hacks etc) but is indistinguishable from Legit Mons.

I was just bringing it up, if it mattered to you, so no worries :)

Chances are, yes, XD
You could use to Aurora Ticket in FRLG/E to get Deoxys, Mystic Ticket to get Ho-oh and Lugia.
As for Celebi, you could try your hand at Glitzer Popping!

Ah, I see! Good to know the difference :) It definitely matters to me, yes, but since I'm used to get Mew on Red via the well-known glitch anyway, my inhibition to get it in FireRed via some ways of cheating is lower than with other pokémon ^^

I don't want to simply create one via Editor though because that would be kind of lame to me (changing the 'natural' IVs or so). I will try to catch one in Emerald on Faraway Island that has some good IVs by rng even though that might take some tries. 2-3 days ago I caught Mewtoo in FireRed and resetted my game save everytime I didn't like the IVs. It took around 150 tries until I got one with beautiful numbers: Modest nature, 31 HP, 31 Special Attack, ~29 Special Defense, ~25 Speed, Phys Attack was ok, Defense 0-1 though :D I hope the resetting didn't hurt the cartridge in the long term.

It feels good to know that FireRed has no internal battery that can run dry one day. I was so unhappy when my Gold Edition with all 251 Pokémon was deleted. Must have been 10 years ago or something. Since then I didn't give Pokémon another serious try with the exception of buying HeartGold and playing it a few hours.

Will check out the other tickets later. Just took a look at what Glitzer Popping is and it sounds complicated but quite interesting. Didn't know any glitches in Gen 3 till now. Oh and thanks for showing me Bulbapedia! I only knew the german PokeWiki but Bulbapedia seems to have many more useful articles!

For the original cartridges, soft resetting shouldn't hurt it (just don't soft reset while you're saving)

that's if you're playing on an original cartridge.
Counterfeit cartridges and some piracy-romloader cartridges uses a battery to store the save.

I bought a pseudo Emerald cartridge (It's a Japanese -> English bad translation fake cart) while waiting for Emerald to be localized, and when the battery died I lost my save and any capability to retain saves.

Still, I could do trades and keep my progress, as long as my GBA SP remained on and charged XD

There are youtube videos that will help you.
To get started, you're gonna need
1. the common trade Pokemon (as described in the video),
2. a way to clone said Pokemon
3. A way to perform the Pomeg Glitch.

Yeah, it was some kind of "soft resetting", i think. Did it on my gamecube with gameboy player and used the reset button on the GC. Not sure if that counts as "soft" since I don't shut down the power?

Soft resetting doesn't involve shutting off the power.

If it was a Gameboy game: Press and hold A, B, Start, and Select.
and if it NDS game: Press and hold L, R, Start, and Select.
or a 3DS game: Press and hold L, R, and Start or Select. (3 buttons, with L and R bumpers being compulsory in the combination.)

Sorry to bump the post, but I have same exact problem with my LeafGreen, would you kindly tell me the gameshark code to warp to the hall of fame in LeafGreen if there is one?

Edit: Nevermind I found it :) 778c9b1a 2ecc238b
