PKHex for Gen 4-5

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and I've been using PKHex for the longest time on gen 6 games and I love it!

But I have a question, since now this program supports Gen 3-5 now, how can I edit savefiles of my Platinum/HG/BW 1 and 2? Do I use the homebrew save manager to export it like X/Y/ORAS or it works differently? Or it can't be done on cartridges?

Kinda nervous of trying to use it and bug my saves...

If you're on 3DS, there are tools like https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-twlsavetool-v1-0.412887/

or physical contraptions like R4 save dongle.

Else using NDS and NDS flash carts there are homebrew like DS save manager.

basically after you dump your save, if the save opens in PKhex without any glitches, it was dumped correctly.

Always back up your saves before editing!
