The goal is to use software to intercept communications between your pokemon DPPt cart and Nintendo's servers, thus allowing you to get pkm files of your pokemon without the need for extra hardware such as an AR or flashcart. Progress is almost nonexistent for a variety of reasons, mainly because it requires a hardware (versus software) debugger and considerable know-how. Check this thread.
