Transfering PKM files with R4 DS

Hey guys/gals,

I was just wondering how moving PKM files onto a DS lite via an R4 DS card and turning them into actual pokemon would work. Also, is there a risk free device that could do this for the 3DS instead?

edit save file on the flashcart to add files -> trade from flashcart to retail cart.
