(Wraith89 vs Anonymous) Shoddy Warstory

My first ladder match...  :/

I had no idea how ladder matches worked, so I decided to give it a try... and I got randomly challenged by an eager battler. Whoops. I was NOT prepared :D

Rules:

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause

Pokemon: (In order of appearance)

It's not cheap :/

You swept 4 of my 6 Pokemon because of

1) Critical hits (Lady Fortuna hates me so much, ask everyone here)

2) Focus Blast HIT me

3) I was sloppy in early-game

4) You happened to have the right Hidden power on your Pokemon (I have no idea how)

5) You won anyways when I decided to just "okay I'll stop subbing and protecting since it's annoying her so terribly :D"

So that was the only way I'd do anything significant near the end anyhow :/

Ok, never mind what I said in the beginning. So it was cheap >.<

But does that mean I should stop Walrein from running one of its most potential sets? Keep in mind Walrein's fully evolved, and like poor Pidgeot, it doesn't have much chance to shine with its unimpressive "I-am-so-outclassed-by-Lapras" stats. But we can fix that by abusing its Ice Body ability.

I didn't invent this set of course... but Stallrein = win :)

I will SO make non-impressive Pokemon shine >:D

List of non-impressive Pokemon:

- Pidgeot

- Raticate

- Farfetch'd

- Dewgong

- Cloyster

- Muk

- Articuno <--- did a couple of times

- Furret <-- Para and I did a couple of times

- Corsola

- Politoed <3

- Delcatty

- Magcargo <--- somehow done

- Delibird <--- accomplished by Shogun Ryu

- Mantine

- Mightyena

- Whiscash

- Tropius

- Kecleon

- Walrein <--- done many times

- Bibarel <--- done a few times

- Chatot

- Shaymin (Land forme)

- and a few more...

Many of them here can be managed, some can't, but I'll still try :(

Wow....Stallwrein is just.....UGH! I hate it when he gets set up >.<

Anyway, Great battle! Since you and Ray both have a hail team, maybe I shoud make one :P

Ah, another stallrein victory. Will she ever lose??? Probably not.

Stallrein can and does lose... it just takes a bit of wise decision-making when setting your teams up. your best bets are to either 1) Phaze stallrein, forcing it to leave the battlefield after hurting itself by making a substitute (options here include roar/whirlwind/yawn/encore) 2) hit it hard and fast (before it can set up a sub). Bullet Punch, Mach Punch, and Vacuum wave (or, if you're THAT scared of subprotect sets, feint) all accomplish this feat nicely (you eventually get a strong hit in while stallrein is trying to set its own sub up again, or 3) change the weather. I cannot emphasize the change that weather can have on the battle. Change hail to sand, and next thing you know, stallrein loses its ice body healing AND is taking damage from the sandstorm, negating even its lefties healing. Abomasnow is the key to hail teams, and keeping the weather from being a factor will help you win often.

While it may not be a common occurrence, preparing for unorthodox teams can save your team from an untimely demise.

If I've just exploited Stallrein's weaknesses and ruined its use for you, wraith, then I'm sorry. I'm just trying to inform the others here of some things that maybe aren't thought of when they throw a team together.

There are so many ways Stallrein can be defeated X_X

Doesn't really matter Milo, we all know what beats it :P

But if you save the surprise until late game, the opponent can be thrown off. And as you said, Abomasnow is key... making sure Aboma doesn't faint is a must... you build a team with Aboma and Walrein (and maybe another Ice) and three others that counter their counters, such as a Tyranitar counter (Aboma can easily take down Hippo one on one) and all. Stallrein isn't invincible... but I wouldn't use Feint. That's a very overspecialized move and isn't practical at all :/

BulkyGyara's got nothing against Stallrein. Sure it can Taunt, but Blizzard can 3HKO it.

I wasn't necessarily saying it should be used, just that it DOES end up breaking the protect. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it, but I didn't want to leave anything out either.

Fun fact: Articuno can outstall Stallrein :P

I would guess that vappy can as well, with water absorb for surf-using variants and a resist to ice for blizzard variants. Wish healing keeps you from having to worry about the damage racking up, and you can just wait until stallrein can't attack anymore.

Suicune does the same job almost as well (at least, resting variants of suicune). Calm mind boosts resistance to either attack rather well, rest will allow you to stall out more PP while keeping healthy, and pressure will ensure that stallrein is forced to wear out its subs/protects after only a few turns (surf gets to 12 uses, and blizzard will get 4).

I outstalled Suicune a couple of times though, but that's because of Toxic Spikes :/

Articuno has spikes immunity to work with, so yeah...

Crocune MIGHT though...

BTW Sub and Protect are NOT affected by Pressure. Pressure only affects moves that affects the foe.
