About This File

This is a ROM Hack of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky that adds an entirely new starter roster, new mechanics, as well as tweaking the expressions and dialogue of the entire main story!

Hey, my name is Gala and I wanted to share a hack I created! This hack has been in the works since October of 2023, and is a very big feat of mine. The game’s plot itself is largely unchanged, but bits of everything else have been altered in minor or major ways. I’ll go into some of the more important changes below, but there is an in-depth spreadsheet here.

  • This hack alters aspects of the game’s story. Some characters look different and have new names. The entire game's script has edited dialogue to remedy poor translations and poorly conveyed emotions. The portraits of characters are more expressive where possible. However, that is the extent of my meddling. This isn’t EoS rebuilt from the ground up, it’s more-so a modified experience that allows me to learn the ropes of making an EoS ROM Hack!

  • We are planning to rework the post-game in a later update, but for now, the majority of our changes land in the main storyline before you graduate the guild. All of the pre-graduation dungeons have had their spawn tables revised with our new Pokémon.

  • You are able to evolve your starter and partner as soon as you discover the Luminous Spring!

  • Thanks to an amazing skypatch, ‘StarterMenuTool’ (credits to Chesyon, Adex, HeckaBad, Irdkwia), we have been able to expand the starter list drastically. Our community has voted on 85 Pokémon to be included as starters! There are even some unique picks such as Golett, Wimpod, and even Cosmog! We have also included every single traditional starter from the mainline games! We’ve worked hard to modernize all our starter learnsets.

  • This hack includes the Fairy type, along with 39 added moves and 22 added abilities!

  • We have added most SkyTemple community patches, which includes things such as Manual Team Control, the Move Growth system from modern PMD titles, Non-interruptive Weather, and many more! It all comes together to make the experience fresh and exciting!

  • We’ve also included the necessary applications to apply this patch to an untampered, US ROM of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. Assets were provided by many people through places such as the PMD Sprite Repository, so check it out to give the artists some love! Due credit is on the spreadsheet.

It seems Zeraora isn't among the list of choosable starters in-game. is this intentional or a mistake?

Hey, im so sorry bout that! That is an intentional feature, unfortunately. I had to divide the starter list in half due to how many there are in my hack. If you pick Female in the quiz, you should see Zeraora there. I will be updating the hack with a patch to elaborate it a bit better, my apologies!

For some reason I can't patch the file even if I take a fresh file of pmd explorers of sky

I'm sorry you're having issues! There's a couple of things that could be causing it:
 

  • Did you make sure that your ROM is completely untouched?
    • Make sure you haven't used any other patches on that ROM
    • Make sure you didn't open that ROM in a ROM editor such as SkyTemple
    • A good indication that this is the issue is if it says "Target Window Checksum Mismatch"
  • Did you forget to put ".nds" at the end of the output file name? 
    • The Output file is "any" so you need to specifically put "EoS Remixed.nds" for it to work.
    • A good indication that this is the issue is if it says "Patch successful" but you can't find the file.

If neither of these are the issue, feel free to send screenshots to help me get a better understanding for what might be happening here.

 

Also, here's a side note: When updating to a new version of my hack, you will always need handy a fresh ROM of EoS. In order to transfer your save to the new version, make sure the save file and the game file names are the same. I personally always name my game and save "EoS Remixed", which prevents any potential save loss you may otherwise encounter.

Can you please fix this that you can't save with the drastic emulator?🙏

Fun hack, I like the choices of starters, and seeing custom portraits and animations is always really nice. There is one problem I've been having, I've been unable to save the game normally, and had to rely on savestates. I use drastic if that makes any difference.

Hey, super glad you've been enjoying it! Be sure to read the description of my hack, as unfortunately Drastic isn't compatible with my hack.

Please read the description! I've made a disclaimer explaining that some emulators are incompatible with my hack.

how do you evolve your Eevees I thought for Espeon and Umbreon you needed the Sun and Lunar Ribbon but I was just thrown out of the Lumious Spring and I have 7,5 stars of IQ on one of my Eevees and 7 IQ stars on my other Eevee

Hello so I just finished the main story and was trying to do the graduate the guild part but during the cutscene before the boss the game completely freezes do you know why this may be? I know that you have left for other passion projects but if you could help would this it would mean a lot thank you (I had a lot of fun with the new starter choices)

How did you get pass the game freezing at the graduation boss fight?

This mod has been pretty fun so far, however I've run into a bug where Magnezone isn't present after the Mespirit fight. The game will only give you so much time before it freezes preventing me from continuing at all. Kinda unfortunate, as this is not very far into the main story. Would like to see a patch made soon if possible, btw don't know if my starters are the problem, but i chose H. Zoroua and H. Sneasel if it helps.

Are there plans on adding more starters in the future? I would love to see shiny Eevee, shiny OG Zorua, OG Growlithe, and Pancham as playables/partners!
- Bonus, Togepi as a playable 🤍

im loving the game so far but I would like to know how do you evolve Eevee into Sylveon?
