About This File
This is a ROM Hack of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky that adds an entirely new starter roster, new mechanics, as well as tweaking the expressions and dialogue of the entire main story!
Hey, my name is Gala and I wanted to share a hack I created! This hack has been in the works since October of 2023, and is a very big feat of mine. The game’s plot itself is largely unchanged, but bits of everything else have been altered in minor or major ways. I’ll go into some of the more important changes below, but there is an in-depth spreadsheet here.
If you don’t feel like reading a wall of text, that’s okay! Download it for yourself and enjoy! Join the Discord to keep up to date on the latest news regarding PMD: Explorers Remixed! You can also check out my YouTube!

This hack alters aspects of the game’s story. Some characters look different and have new names. The entire game's script has edited dialogue to remedy poor translations and poorly conveyed emotions. The portraits of characters are more expressive where possible. However, that is the extent of my meddling. This isn’t EoS rebuilt from the ground up, it’s more-so a modified experience that allows me to learn the ropes of making an EoS ROM Hack!
-
We are planning to rework the post-game in a later update, but for now, the majority of our changes land in the main storyline before you graduate the guild. All of the pre-graduation dungeons have had their spawn tables revised with our new Pokémon.
-
You are able to evolve your starter and partner as soon as you discover the Luminous Spring!
-
Thanks to an amazing skypatch, ‘StarterMenuTool’ (credits to Chesyon, Adex, HeckaBad, Irdkwia), we have been able to expand the starter list drastically. Our community has voted on 85 Pokémon to be included as starters! There are even some unique picks such as Golett, Wimpod, and even Cosmog! We have also included every single traditional starter from the mainline games! We’ve worked hard to modernize all our starter learnsets.
-
This hack includes the Fairy type, along with 39 added moves and 22 added abilities!
-
We have added most SkyTemple community patches, which includes things such as Manual Team Control, the Move Growth system from modern PMD titles, Non-interruptive Weather, and many more! It all comes together to make the experience fresh and exciting!
-
We’ve also included the necessary applications to apply this patch to an untampered, US ROM of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. Assets were provided by many people through places such as the PMD Sprite Repository, so check it out to give the artists some love! Due credit is on the spreadsheet.

2.3 Release!
What's New in Version 2.3.0 See changelog
Released
PMD: Explorers Remixed 2.3 is out!
We are hosting it in two places: Hackdex - Automatically patches for you if you have the correct ROM. If the website is rejecting your ROM, make sure to clean it. Project Pokemon - Good, ol’ manual patching. You can also find the patch with MoveGrowth disabled here.
Save Compatibility:
Our official stance for this release is that we want you to start a new save file. We can’t stop you from trying to use an old one, but we also won’t be able to assist with any issues that arise from those endeavors. Rest assured we have taken the necessary steps to allow 2.3 save files to be used with future versions. This will be the last time we have to ask you to start from scratch (though you will probably want to when you see what we have planned for 2.4 and 3.0)
Spreadsheet:
Find our data spreadsheet here. It contains all the added moves, abilities, starters, and a full Pokédex. It also has recruit locations and evolution methods.
Starters:
- 85 starter choices, voted on by you!
- Each starter family has had their learnset, abilities and base stats cleaned up.
- Each starter has at least 17 moves in their learnset. The final move is learned at level 68. (or 72 in the case of Draco Meteor, Blast Burn etc.)
- Some distantly related Pokemon have been linked through Evolution! For example, Donphan can evolve into either Great Tusk or Iron Treads!
- Most starters are available to recruit from dungeons before Guild Graduation.

Mega Evolutions:
- The following Pokémon unfortunately didn't receive animations in time, so we are using the Shiny versions as a placeholder: Mega Venusaur, Mega Blastoise, Mega Meganium, Mega Dragonite, Mega Blaziken, Mega Swampert, Mega Froslass, Mega Metagross, Mega Golurk, Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, Mega Greninja, Iron Treads, Mega Sceptile, Mega Scizor, Mega Pinsir, Mega Meganium, Mega Heracross, Raging Bolt, Mega Absol Z, Gouging Fire, Mega Golisopod, Mega Emboar, Mega Chandelure, Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Gyarados, Mega Espurr, Mega Lucario Z, Mr. Rime, and Toedscruel.
- 410 IQ (4.5 stars) is the requirement for Mega Evolution. It is performed at Luminous Spring like any other evolution.
- They all gain new abilities, and sometimes a new type.
- Mega Evolution is a reversible process, just take your Mega Pokémon back to the pool and it can devolve back into its previous form.
- Most of them don't gain new learnsets or TMs, unless they gained a type that didn't make sense to add moves of that type to the earlier forms.
- Due to limited space, we could not include every available Pokémon’s Mega Evolution.
Moves:
-
Thanks to Jawshoeuh and Adex, we're up to 44 added moves now! We’ve combed through every available Pokémon and added moves that Gamefreak gave them in future generations.
-
Starters have all had their vanilla learnsets expanded to at least 17 moves each.
-
3 additional TMs: Play Rough, Moonblast and Alluring Voice.
-
Snore is now twice as powerful and hits all enemies around the user.
-
Knock Off now deals damage, and deals more damage if it knocks an item off.
-
Beat Up is now used on an ally or foe in front. It still summons your team to your side regardless of the target, but the targeted foe is also dealt damage. It has a BP of 5.
-
Worry Seed now has a new effect: 100% chance to confuse hit targets.
-
Flash is now a 'room-wide' move.
-
Powder Snow is now a 'tiles around the user' move.
-
Icy Wind has lost its slow effect, and now has a 10% chance to freeze the target.
-
Ice Fang now cannot freeze the target.
-
Powder Snow, Ice Punch, Blizzard and Ice Beam all have lost their chance to freeze, and have a 10% chance to slow the target's Movement Speed.
-
Ominous Wind and Silver Wind no longer have a chance to omni-boost. Their room-wide radius remains.
-
AI will now only use a move with a room-wide radius if there is an enemy within two tiles of them.
-
Hyper Voice now has a range of ‘8 tiles around the user’.
-
Frenzy Plant now has a range of ‘8 tiles around the user’.
-
Many moves have had their BP adjusted so that they closer match their power level in the mainline games.
-
Many moves are now a new type, see below:
- Morning Sun - Fire
- Sweet Scent - Grass
- Sharpen - Steel
- Razor Wind - Flying
- Focus Energy - Fighting
- Mean Look - Dark
- Mind Reader - Psychic
- Scary Face - Dark

Abilities:
- 22 new abilities from patches by Gelius, Adex, Critchy and Assidion! Many starters gained one of them.
- Many abilities have been buffed. You can view these by looking for the ‘BUFFED!’ tag on the ability spreadsheet.
Misc Things:
- If you can recruit a Pokémon, there's a good chance we included its entire family, such as Megas and regional forms. We couldn't include them all, due to limited ROM space, but the majority of them are in there.
- There is now a two-way passage between Sharpedo Rock base and the Job Board room in Wigglytuff’s guild. It is available for use once you’re able to freely enter Sharpedo Rock base.
- Pokemon no longer drop Unown Stones, and Aegis Cave uses a different item for its puzzles.
- Male Pokemon no longer get an increased crit rate.
- Female Pokemon no longer get increased accuracy.
- Spinda Recruits only include the base form of our starters.
- Spinda Eggs only include baby Pokémon. This is the only way to recruit a Toxel in 2.3, happy hunting!
Future:
From here, we will begin work on 2.4, which will include: 280 new Pokémon! New spawn tables for every single dungeon in the game!
Thank you all for your patience, and we hope you enjoy the update!
