  1. Hi,

I'm not sure if this is useful for a lot of people but I've jsut developed an app for Android which calculates the password needed to reset the clock in Gold, Silver and Crystal.

You can get the APK here: Pokémon GSC Password Calculator.zip

    Here is a screenshot :)

With the update to version 1.1 the calculator also supports reading the necessary inputs right from the save file instead, pretty handy if you're playing with an emulator on your smartphone :)

This does come one limitation, however: Japanese saves are not supported.

Also keep in mind that you cannot have any special characters in your Trainer Name (except for basic ones like exclamation marks, etc.).

I don't really expect this app to have any bugs, since it's pretty simple but as this is my first Android app, please do report if something doesn't work as it's intended to :)

  2. Hi,

I've got a question about the save files of Fire Red and Leaf Green. How exactly does the game save which starter who've chosen? The reason I'm asking this is that I basically want to be able to choose which of the legendary beasts I can catch after the Elite 4, meaning I could choose Charmander as my starter but still be able to catch Suicune afterwards by changing something in the save file. (Honestly, I'm doing somewhat of a Living-Dex-project and I don't want to beat FR/LG three times just to get all of the three legendaries, yeah, I'm not too strict on the rules)

I guess this isn't as easy as it sounds though, since the game probably stores your chosen starter in a flag and we don't really know much about flags in the Gen III save files. Well, or maybe we do, I got all my information about the save structure from Bulbapedia and that doesn't really give much in-depth insight.

It would be great if someone could help me on this, else I'll do some research on my own, but I doubt that it'd be very easy.

  3. Great! I'm gonna quote IGN:

"Only one random Mirage Spot can be discovered within your own game each day, but up to ten more can be sent over via StreetPass or Passerbys on the Player Search System."

I had previously read you coul unlock all spots, seems I was fooled. Don't know why they added two padding bytes, but seems we won't get anything else from streetpass.

But seems we almost cracked the spots, only piece remaining would be 0x1600 and TID, since that spot is the only one with hidden items, but maybe hacking in the mirage spot just for the hidden item is quite pointless, as since you are hacking the spot just for the hidden it, you might hack the item

I'm not really sure if IGN is right on this one. I'm pretty sure you can unlock all islands on a single day with streetpass

  4. I've once found these coordinates too and was then faced with the strange glitch that the golden ring was moved to the north a little bit, making you unable to reach it. Strange that it doesn't appear for you at all. Guess we'd still need the flags for that.

  5. I'm currently using your editor with Resuce Team Blue and I've found a bug (or is this just not supported yet?). If you give a Pokemon one more move than it currently has (e. g. the Pokemon knows three moves and you're giving it a forth one), the additional move will not show up in the game evn though I've checked the checkbox next to the text box. It would be great if that could be fixed. I can send you my save file if you want.

  6. Have you considered adapting Rhydon and converting it into a gen 2 editor? By keeping the overall structure of the program it shouldn't be too difficult to do and it would help in eventually getting it into pkhex. In fact SciresM has started adding Rhydon into pkhex.

Pkhex is becoming the tool. Centralizing all efforts into a single program seems way better, as multiple developers focusing on the same program will most likely lead to a better application, even if some developers only focus on some generations.

Just a suggestion, I've wanted to attempt forking Rhydon to make "Rhypherior" (seemed a good name for gen 2 editor), but my free time is pretty low right now.

    I'll definitely look into that.

  7. Understood. I've had it happen again with File → Save File so basically it destroys or spares the save data whenever it feels like it. However, I can still open the save file with Pikasav and saving over it with that program solves the problem. I don't know if I can still open it with OmniEdit because I assumed I couldn't for whatever reason.

Wait so when you load the broken save file in Piksav and saving it again without changing anything the save works again? That would mean it's a checksum issue.

  8. I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. The save data is destroyed when I click "All Seen" and "All Owned", but just now I've restarted, repeated, clicked File → Save File and it worked. The last two times—it happened twice—I clicked Save Changes in the lower-left corner. Hmm...

Sorry, I'm not at home until Friday and I don't have the source code on my notebook. I'll have a look once I'm at home but I do recall that both ways of saving the file should use the exact same function, we'll see.

  9. HUGE UPDATE: Second generation support is DONE! I've decided to make a huge jump from version 0.2 to 1.0 beta for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, now that PKHeX supports saves from generations three to six, my motivation to make OmniEdit compatible with every gen has slightly decreased since PKHeX already does everything I'd like my tool to do and it has a very nice, slim GUI. Additionally, OmniEdit is now ready to be used without many issues like the almost completely broken Box interface in the first release. Everything should now be working just as you'd expect it to.
