I am fairly new to pokemon, only picking it up with HGSS and then going back from there. I have put a bit of time in on it, but I am still unsure of what kind of stragey to use. Mostly everything I had before was just a bunch of "strong" pokemon thrown together, but I never looked into each weakness, or multiple weaknesses across the board. I figured I would try to go with a simple to use strategy with a Rain based team. I usually only battle with friends, and we just use wi-fi battles and agree on no legendary pokemon. Anyway - here is my team right now, I am not sure how it stacks up, but I did read a little to figure out what to do. (Also I am not 100% on the EVs, If i can go check that somewhere please let me know, I have tried to build it up to the best stats for their purposes)
Bronzong @Damp Rock
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Levitate
EVs: Set towards HP and Defense.
Move List:
-Gyro Ball
-Rain Dance
-Stealth Rock
-Explosion
Strategy - From my experience, this is one of the two that I was debating on for a lead. The reason for gyro ball is because this Bronzong is EXTREMELY slow, and it will do major damage. Most people I have played against go for speed from their lead, and never use things such as taunt. This should let me get off a rain dance, and possibly a stealth rock. If I start taking too much damage, that is why explosion or gyro ball is there depending on the type that I am up against, and if I should be able to withstand another attack or not. I would start with a Dance, set up rocks, and play things out from there. I would want to keep this one in until it faints. Also, most of my opponents have came out heavy with the move Earthquake.
Kingdra @ Life Orb
Nature: Naughty
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: Set up for ATK, SpATK, SPD
Move List:
-Draco Meteor
-Surf
-Waterfall
-Dragon Dance
Strategy - Pretty much the standard Kingdra from what I understand. Dragon Dance there as a way to boost more stats before attacking if I feel I will have the chance. I decided on SS over Mystic Water for speed, and attached the life orb because I am tyring to be offensive and do as much damage as i can as fast as I can.
Ludicolo @ Life Orb
Nature: Modest
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: SpATK, DEF, SpDEF
Move List:
-Ice Beam
-Surf
-Grass Knot
-Focus Blast
Strategy - I wanted him to be a little bit bulky, but still be able to deal out the damage. I like the coverage he has with Ice, Water, Grass, and Fight type moves. I didn't want to get too 1 dimentional, and I wasn't too worried about having him in to set up antoher RD, which is what my next one is ready for.
Electrode @ Damp Rock
Nature: Hasty
Ability: Static
EVs: SPD, ATK, SpATK
Move List:
-Taunt
-Rain Dance
-Thunder
-Explosion
Strategy - This is where I had the big debate, start with Electrode, or start with Bronzong. I know it isn't very conventional, but I wanted to see how 2 pokemon used to set up might work. Its a chance I am willing to take. If the rain is still going on, I can hit the thunder. If I need to set up the rain, Electrode should go first, and Taunting will keep me from being hit with an annoying Confuse Ray problem I am having (and I don't want to try a Lum Berry attachment).
Kabutops @ Life Orb
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: ATK, SPD, DEF
Move List:
-Waterfall
-Stone Edge
-X-Scissor
-Aqua Jet
Strategy - I Like the coverage with rock and bug type moves, and Aqua Jet is sure to go first. She is pretty quick, and has a high attack. From what I understand, it is the typically kabutops
Swampert @ Leftovers
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Torrent
EVs: DEF, ATK, SpDEF
Move List:
-Toxic
-Earthquake
-Rain Dance
-Surf
Strategy - Honestly I was really unsure on what to put in here. I am afraid of its grass weakness that has been exploited before, but it has also worked as a pretty good tank for me. I like the ground move, and I have surf for water, but I don't feel that I am getting the most out of Torrent using just Surf. He was built to be slow, so I figured it would be able to take and do damage as kind of a last resort.
Here are a few others that I have and wanted to use, but don't know what to do here. Anything you can help or suggest would be very welcome.
Lanturn @ Leftovers w. heal bell, ice beam, toxic, discharge
Weezing @ black sludge w. haze, will-o-wisp, flamethrower, thunderbolt
Claydol @ leftovers w. SR, Earth Power, Shadow Ball, Rapid Spin
Gliscor @ BrightPowder w. Roost, EQ, Ice Fang, Toxic
Scizor @ Life Orb w. SD, BP, Silver Wing, Superpower (i see this used alot and wanted something different)
Empoleon @ Life Orb w. Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Grass Knot, Agility. (Thought of using this in place of Swampert. I know he is a huge threat to a Rain Team, but I thought sometimes using the threat as a helper might work out best)
Add any help and input please.
