So, for those of you who try to collect medals (like me), no doubt you've seen the medals that are awarded for beating the Elite Four with a mono-_____ team (and the challenge with one Pokemon only). I'm creating this thread as an opportunity for people to discuss their winning mono-type teams here or to get help with their teams.
My successful teams:
Fire: Houndoom, Blaziken, Charizard, Reshiram, Arcanine, Volcarona
Water: Keldeo, Starmie, Kingdra, Sharpedo, Lanturn, Swampert
Dragon: Hydreigon, Garchomp, Latios, Zekrom, Kyurem, Reshiram
Dark: Houndoom, Hydreigon, Scrafty, Darkrai, Hydreigon, Sharpedo, Krookodile
The teams I know I'm going to have the most trouble with are Normal, Grass, Bug and Poison. I have an EVed Rash Serene Grace Togekiss I got from the GTS which has the moves to send -every- Elite Four member screaming into the night (Air Slash, Shadow Ball, Aura Sphere), but the other types mentioned above are lacking in options I would consider usable.
Thoughts, people?
-
My bad. I meant,
take it down without capture
. >_<
-
Perhaps something that was exclusive to Blitz Black? That seems like a fair trade.
-
Eh, not sure about the Fakemon idea... i don't really like it to be honest, if you want to ramp up the difficulty etc, that's fine, but I'm not keen on the fakemon. That's best saved for a pure fakemn type hack, imho.
-
Perhaps you could put in an in-game trade for Slugma?
I'm not sure I like the idea of version exclusive legends, perhaps they could be prizes given by an NPC for defeating the PWT's tourneys a certain number of times? Other "pixie" legends (Jirachi, Celebi etc) could be programmed as either interactable or like the Azelf/Mesprit/Uxie event in BW2.
-
You could simply make them interactable Pokemon? I'm not sure how to do that, though.
That starter event sounds... Forced, to be honest. Because I'd rather pick my favorite of the starters than be forced to take whatever is pre-set. Perhaps make it so that every season has one region's starters available to choose from? And you can later choose from the starters that you didn't pick. BlazeBlack and SacredGold allowed you to either capture or be given all the starters, which I really enjoyed.

Hi Orromin, I received your PM and although I'm not very good at doing any of the actual editing, but I have played quite a few hacks and I'd like to offer a few ideas and ask a few questions. I'm also willing to serve as a sounding board from the players' point of view, to sort out balance. (I've beaten both SacredGold and BlazeBlack, so I'm not worried about increased difficulty, I -loved- the increased difficulty in those hacks, but BlazeBlack in particular did have some moments of extreme frustration.)
My apologies for putting everything into this thread, but your google docs Mailbox doesn't like me... (my computer is also a piece of crap. >.<)
First of all, I'm not entirely sure about the version specific abilities. It just seems unnecessarily complicated. Hidden abilities, perhaps you could edit some mons so they have different/better ones.
Re Pokemon typing changes, what are you thinking? Also, are you going to be changing Pokemon's movepools? (If so, please give Flareon and Entei Flare Blitz.)
I'm assuming you're editing Pokemon available on the routes, so that firstly begs the question of how you intend to include the other legendaries from previous generations. Of the two hacks I've played, SacredGold did this better by far, adding a series of in-game events-- Blazeblack gave them a 1% encounter rate in certain areas. It was certainly more "fair", but a lot more frustrating and didn't feel as good from a player's point of view. Secondly, I do hope you plan to increase the different species available in the early game. For instance, in my normal Black 2 run, I chose Emboar and ended up having to rely on the Psyduck line for ENTIRELY too long until I got fed up and traded for a Lanturn. This could be fixed by giving players the Super Rod early on, so they can pick up what they want.
... And now that I've slammed you with a wall of text, I'll wait for your response >.>

Find yourself a Riolu in Floccessy Ranch. Riolu makes short work of Gym 1. Just play smart and you'll be fine.
-
Adding Swablu to the list. I have like six of the little fellas. Anyone wanting a Cloud Nine Swablu, PM me.
-
@Fab: I had a Pidove by that point, not the best of the birds but eh, she served her purpose.
My original planned in game team was Emboar, Flygon, (Water type), (Electric), (Psychic), and Krookodile. After experiencing extreme frustration with Pignite/Golduck/Krokorok/Ampharos/Stoutland/Unfezant, I got a friend's help and now am packing a team of Charizard, Garchomp, Lanturn, Lapras (traded), Krookodile and Lucario (caught in-game).
-
Version: English
Current status: Grinding for the Elite Four.
Team: (NOTE THIS WAS DONE WITH A LOT OF TRADING HELP FROM A FRIEND): Charizard, Krookodile, Garchomp, Lucario, Lanturn, Lapras
Most memorable moment so far:
Meeting Black Kyurem. Then realizing I had to take it down without killing it. "Oh crap" does not BEGIN to describe my thoughts of how screwed I was. (But it went alright, I only lost one 'mon and my Charizard took it out in fine style, so all good!)
And the subsequent battle with GreenHaired Bastard himself. It wasn't so much a curbstomp, but it was good enough and I didn't lose anyone.
-
Haha, yes it did. It was during one of the Metronome matches I had with... I think CuleX. It was one where I was losing, then my Togekiss went crazy and destroyed three of his Pokemon before using Explosion on his second-to-last one when Toxic-ed and at like 8% health. To this day I have no idea how that 131% damage happened... I think Togekiss got some Attack boosts earlier, but I don't remember
-
That... was an extremely long match. Congrats on pulling off the win, though not sure what you had planned with Golurk at the start...
Nice match, though
-
Okay, so I beat the main story portion of BlazeBlack, but now in the post-game section, my ROM keeps freezing and I don't know why. Can anyone help?
It's frozen on talking to certain trainers:
-one of the scientists in the Dreamyard Basement
-Pokefan Pearl on Route 15, though it worked again later
-Pokefan Diamond on Route 15 (still refuses to work)
-Clerk Doug, Black Belt next to Pokecenter, and Ace Trainer next to route 15 gatehouse, in Black City
And it also froze once when I was moving Pokemon around in the PC.
I'm using a DSTWO card and the Regular version of this, with a US rom.
Can someone help me? How do I make it work properly?
-
I heard enough horror stories about the Hydreigon to want to make sure I was well prepared... Unova is the only region where I felt it was necessary to raise a Dragon because of a) that monster; and b) the lack of decent Ice types. Besides, you know I tend to grind.
I'm looking forward to Grey, though the story will change completely if they change the Reshiram/Zekrom thing... Maybe they'll make Kyurem the mascot and let you catch the other two later, with N wielding one and Ghetsis (?) wielding the other? That'd be fun.
Yeah the Lenora thing was a , Watchog is just... creepy. I'd rather her have a badass Herdier since I'm quite fond of that line. If they make a third version I also want Elesa to have a different lineup other than the Zebstrika and that -irritating- pair of Emolgas, because that battle was trollishly irritating and I really don't want to suffer through it AGAIN.
-
Klinklang also evolves at ridiculously high levels and has no good moves to speak of. Ferroseed-- only for Swampert trollin'. Krook is my preferred one for in-game due to usable STAB, though.
I ground up to Lv 55 because of that stupid Hydreigon (full circle conversation) but I was irritated because they gave you no real way to train except for fighting in the long grass outside the Giant Chasm over and over and over and over, once you were done with the Trainers (which didn't take long 'cause some of them had like Lv 65 Ekans. ) . At least HGSS gave you the gym leader matchups to play with.
-
Not putting down your achievement any. We all have our own ways of doing things, after all.
I do wish there had been better Steel types in BW though... 'cause Klink line and Pawniard line are frankly terrible. Not that they're necessary, a good Ground type basically is a necessity, but I disliked having to choose between Krook and Exca.
Regarding your analysis of the leveling system:
HGSS definitely had that problem, the massive level jump was a pain in the butt and the fact that there were NO good training areas just made it even worse. Lack of trainers in Victory Road also irritated me there.
Then again, they didn't fix things much in Black/White... look at the level jump between the wild Pokemon of Victory Road (Lv 42 ish if you get lucky in a dirt swirl) and the ones on the second half of Route 13 (Lv 59 Kangaskhan in the long grass O_o) That was just a bit too much and made me dislike a lot of the post-game stuff.
-
I actually never used Excadrill... I was too fond of my Moxie Krookodile >.> STAB Crunch works wonders on half the Elite Four, there's a reason why I always tried to catch a Moxie Sandile.
The Cofag was a problem because I usually chose to use the version legend, and of course Toxic/Protect spam *grr*
Well, you're chronically underleveled yet with incredible (incredibly bad?) luck, and on the other hand I grind so I never had much of a problem with massive level gaps, but I've never had to use X items... though I do admit I was close to using them on Clair and Whitney. Hate them hate them hate them.
-
GAH CANNOT UNSEE. Where did you find that picture?! Creepy as heck >_<
Yeah, that's true, I hadn't noticed/thought of that. Plus WoW/Toxic have low accuracy and in a situation like this that could mean Hydreigon sweep...
Another possible strategy, I guess, if you have Lilligant with Chlorophyll/Sun up, is to Sleep Powder it and then start whaling away. Leech Seed could also be helpful...
-
The original one, before we noticed it was male, had to do with the Cofagrigus being N's mother's soul...
.. then we noticed it was male and went "What if that's N's real dad?" (since I don't remember either of us being able to picture Ghetsis reproducing without brain breakage).
It was the best I had, which isn't saying much. I could have put Toxic on Seismitoad, but that wouldn't have stopped that Hydreigon since Poison doesn't affect stats... and I didn't want to sacrifice a slot on Emboar for Will-O-Wisp (plus Surf would have destroyed my hulk-pig anyway). Freeze, let's not even go there... Thunder Wave to slow it down and let me heal up Reshiram and Haxorus was my only option
-
BTW this is a male Cofagrigus. Do you wonder, if the Pokedex description is true, who this Cofagrigus may have been in the past?
Didn't we have a chat about this at one point and ended up going D: D: D: "I really hope that's not true"...
Just a thought re that Hydreigon, though, if you can status it before it kills you (for me, that was a Zebstrika with Thunder Wave) then it'll give you an opening to get your Dragon/Ice type in and kill it because it outruns even Haxorus at Lv 55 (that might be my fault though because I didn't EV train and I didn't bother with natures either).
-
Yep. But I didn't know it was a ghost. just thought the woman had a natu with teleport or something. I thought it was some kind of mystery so I went across The entire unova to find her again. could of sweared I'd seen that before. Must have forgotten to save....
She comes back. You just have to leave the bridge and then go back again, it's random when/if she appears. Pretty creepy though.
-
I read somewhere (Bulbapedia?) that the number of critical catches you get has something to do with how many Pokemon you've seen. I might be wrong though.

Hi! Nice to meet you, dude. I lived in London for 3 years so I have very fond memories of it.
