I've done searches on this already, and some threads say leave it as 00 or make it 04. Which is correct?

CLARIFICATION: I mean the 86h value for Pokemon already hatched from eggs in HGSS.

Use 04. 00 is only for non HG/SS hatched. See this:

That's supposedly a hatched Cyndaquil in HGSS. The thread you mentioned is where I got the notion it's supposed to be 04 at first, but then I found that thread and am now uber confused.

Could anyone like hatch a random egg in HGSS and post the values?

I caught two Rattata and bred them. I can now confirm that the value IS 04 for bred pokemon, from HG/SS.
