Question about importing save file to Pokemon Ultra Sun

I have CFW on my 2ds with both Checkpoint and JKSM installed. I tried both with a save file for Omega Ruby, but it came up as corrupted each time. I am most likely doing something wrong. I have found some guides, but they are a little vague. Do I need to already have a save file in the game and then overwrite it? Or can I put the save file onto a brand new install that hasn't been opened? Is there anyone here who can post a step by step guide or can link a good video or guide?

I also have pkhex downloaded but I am a total noob at using it. Is there anything I have to do in there before putting the file on the SD card?
