help with japanese pokemon platinum cartridge?

i recently bought a japanese copy of pokemon platinum, and it got here today. but when i boot the game up, it gives me what"d i'd assume is a communication error of some sort. the cartridge itself seems legit, and i haven't heard of people bootlegging japanese games as much as they do the english ones. i didn't buy a cartridge-only listing, either. i bought with the box, with all the manuals and everything. it registers on my 3ds just fine, but when i boot it up it shows the nintendo logo and stuff before the screen flashes white for a split second, before cutting to the error screen. could someone please help me getting it to work? (im playing this on a New Nintendo 3DS XL)

edit: nevermind, got it working! probably just a bit buggy since its an older copy.
