How to use pkhex on heartgold being played on a new 3ds xl

Hi everyone. I currently have the DS cartridge of pokemon heartgold. All I want to be able to do is change the ivs and nature of my pokemon in it. I have pkhex on my computer but I have never tried changing ivs and natures from an actual cartridge. Previously, I emulated emerald on the computer, and I could just load the save file straight to pkhex and make my modifications. I do not want to emulate heartgold as it would be nice to play it on my new 3ds xl. Is there a way to do this? My immediate thought process was to buy some kind of adapter that would allow me to connect the cartridge to the computer. Bare in mind I am not knowledgeable in any of this at all so I apologize in advance if I am speaking nonsense in that idea. Thanks again.

You need a hacked 3DS, the suggested guide can be found here: https://3ds.hacks.guide/

With that you can dump/restore your cart saves, and eventually edit them with PKHeX.
