snowslide12 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I have never heard any problem about Pokegen having an attached virus, spyware, or trojan. What about the Pokegen software makes it so safe, reliable, and virus free?
Codr Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Aside from someone with the expertise looking through the program thoroughly, you don't have any guarantee that it isn't malicious. All you can do is take my word for it and the fact that there have never been any reports of anything negative from it. (Excluding the occasional bugs that cause undesired effects on Pokemon data.) As a side note, the new update system has the potential to trigger antivirus software alerts. The system creates a second, temporary exe when it's updated, which might get treated like virus-like activity. This is done because software can't overwrite itself while the copy is still running. Therefore a second copy is necessary in order to overwrite the original.
snowslide12 Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 Ok thanks. I was just asking because after running Pokegen, my computer seems to be showing signs of a trojan horse I hope its just a coincidence
Codr Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 If you downloaded it from the link provided here, the problem wasn't from PokeGen.
randomspot555 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Ok thanks. I was just asking because after running Pokegen, my computer seems to be showing signs of a trojan horse I hope its just a coincidence Either: You're using a shitty anti-virus program or... Something else caused the virus.
snowslide12 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 I used the latest McAfee and Windows Defender scanners and they said I was fine. I may be bit paranoid because Ive been getting lots of pop ups and program failure. Its probably nothing though.
randomspot555 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Regardless of what it is, it isn't because of PokeGen.
