About This File

This is a ROM Hack of Explorers of Sky that adds an entirely new starter list, new mechanics, as well as tweaking the expressions and dialogue of the entire main story!

Hey, my name is Gala and I wanted to share a hack I created! This hack has been in the works since October of 2023, and is a very big feat of mine. The game’s plot itself is unchanged, but bits of everything else have been altered in minor or major ways. There’s a lot of stuff to cover, so I did my best to lay it all out below! If you don’t feel like reading a wall of text, that’s okay! Download it for yourself and enjoy! (This hack was made using the US version of Explorers of Sky!)

UPDATE: As of 2.0.X, I have gone on hiatus. I wish to dive back into other passions of mine for the time being. However, this project will return someday! Join the Discord to keep up to date on the latest news regarding EoS: Remixed! You can also check out my YouTube!
 

  • All the starters have been almost entirely replaced, and many of them have new typings and/or move pools. I recommend checking them all out to find which team comp works best for you!

  • I have added pretty much every SkyTemple community patch, which includes things such as Complete Team Control, Fairy Type, Choosing your Starter, and many more! It all comes together to make the experience fresh and exciting!

  • I've also provided the necessary applications to apply this patch, all you've gotta do is provide your own untampered ROM of Explorers of Sky. 

  • I used assets provided by many people through places such as the PMD Sprite Repository, so check it out to give the artists some love!

  • As a reminder, this hack alters aspects of the game’s story. Some characters look different with new names or are different in their entirety. The entire game’s script has edited dialogue to remedy poor translations and poorly conveyed emotions. The portraits of characters are more expressive where possible, as well. However, that is the extent of my meddling. This isn’t EoS rebuilt from the ground up, it’s more so a modified experience that allows me to learn the ropes of making an EoS ROM Hack.

  • I've added many new moves to the game to go along with Fairy Type as well as the newer gen Pokémon added to the hack. As well as this, Protean replaces Color Change, Moxie replaces Pure Power, and Contrary replaces an unused ability slot.

    • Added Moves: Echoed Voice, Disarming Voice, Plasma Fist, Infernal Parade, Bitter Malice, Gigaton Hammer, Dazzling Gleam, Draining Kiss, Moonblast, Play Rough, Accelerock, First Impression

  • I have added new Pokémon to every main story dungeon. They now include all mainline starters from Gen 5-9, as well as the overhauled starter list. Some bosses have been altered as well, as well as potentially adding new boss fights that weren’t there before. Every dungeon will include level-scaling, where evolutions of mons within the base spawn pool will appear after certain points of the story. Best stay on your toes when returning to past dungeons!

 

Here's the list of Starters + Partners and a little bit about them!
Due to there being so many different options, I had to divide them in half based on the gender options in the quiz. Please refer to which group your starter choice is under! However, the partner list was unaffected by this decision, so any Pokémon with "(Starter/Partner)" is on the partner list regardless of which group it's in.

Heyyyy, long time no see! I hope you all have been doing well since... March. Oops. Well surprise! There's a new official version of the hack for y'all to try! It comes with a ton of bug fixes that I left in 2.0 when I went on hiatus. While I was taking my well deserved break, Darkpawra came to me offering to fix the bugs left in my 2.0 release. I accepted his offer, and he got to work posting fix after fix on the discord. This version is his last update to the hack, so it was about time I posted it to the download page! Here's what he fixed:

  • Fixed some moves not being affected by MoveGrowth
  • Fixed the learnsets of the Eeveelutions and Alolan Raichu so that they don't crash the game upon being obtained via evolution
  • Made Special Episode 5 accessible without freezes or crashes
  • Fixed an issue where certain starters would cause cutscenes with many Pokémon to softlock or crash the game
  • Fixed learnsets to give ghost starters Ominous Wind, and electric starters Discharge
  • Made it so that Dialga cannot appear in missions (He will no longer ask you to rescue his friend Pidgey)
  • Adjusted companion Pokémon movesets
  • Fixed an issue that caused Chimecho Assembly to crash the game
  • Fixed an issue where several Pokémon's Body Size is larger than intended, causing them to disappear or crash the game upon entering a dungeon
  • Fixed an issue where Manaphy would only say "..." when being spoken to in dungeons
  • Fixed a few dialogue typos in the main story
  • Fixed an issue where an Invalid Leafeon would appear in Missions
  • Fixed various issues regarding the Hisuian Sneasel and Zorua families
  • Fixed the Movement Style of Altaria, Moireon, and Archeops to Hovering
  • Allowed the regional variant Pokémon and custom Eevee to have access to the corresponding Species Items
  • Adjusted Rock Slide's range to match Wide Slash

Known Issues

  • Some other Pokémon still crash upon obtaining through recruitment or evolution and viewing them in Chimecho assembly, presumably due to many Pokémon learning more than 4 moves at level 1
  • Some starters are still missing necessary sprites and/or portraits to function as intended in the story cutscenes
  • When Powder Snow gets disabled, it reads the move as "Aurora Beam"
  • The Zorua Families are incredibly overpowered compared to any of the other starters
  • Powder Snow is too strong of a move to be accessible early game
  • Pitfall Traps sometimes cause unintended bugs such as removing members and replacing them with a random Pokémon

 

With all that out of the way, allow me to share what's been going on since you last saw me. I've officially come out of hiatus, and am hard at work with the next major update, titled Explorers of Sky: Remixed 3.0 - "Mirage Madness". It will include new dungeons, 300 added Pokémon, and more story and QoL adjustments! I hope you all stay tuned for the future of this hack, and be sure to join the Discord if you haven't already! It seems Zeraora isn't among the list of choosable starters in-game. is this intentional or a mistake?

Hey, im so sorry bout that! That is an intentional feature, unfortunately. I had to divide the starter list in half due to how many there are in my hack. If you pick Female in the quiz, you should see Zeraora there. I will be updating the hack with a patch to elaborate it a bit better, my apologies!

For some reason I can't patch the file even if I take a fresh file of pmd explorers of sky

I'm sorry you're having issues! There's a couple of things that could be causing it:
 

  • Did you make sure that your ROM is completely untouched?
    • Make sure you haven't used any other patches on that ROM
    • Make sure you didn't open that ROM in a ROM editor such as SkyTemple
    • A good indication that this is the issue is if it says "Target Window Checksum Mismatch"
  • Did you forget to put ".nds" at the end of the output file name? 
    • The Output file is "any" so you need to specifically put "EoS Remixed.nds" for it to work.
    • A good indication that this is the issue is if it says "Patch successful" but you can't find the file.

If neither of these are the issue, feel free to send screenshots to help me get a better understanding for what might be happening here.

 

Also, here's a side note: When updating to a new version of my hack, you will always need handy a fresh ROM of EoS. In order to transfer your save to the new version, make sure the save file and the game file names are the same. I personally always name my game and save "EoS Remixed", which prevents any potential save loss you may otherwise encounter.

Fun hack, I like the choices of starters, and seeing custom portraits and animations is always really nice. There is one problem I've been having, I've been unable to save the game normally, and had to rely on savestates. I use drastic if that makes any difference.

Hey, super glad you've been enjoying it! Be sure to read the description of my hack, as unfortunately Drastic isn't compatible with my hack.

how do you evolve your Eevees I thought for Espeon and Umbreon you needed the Sun and Lunar Ribbon but I was just thrown out of the Lumious Spring and I have 7,5 stars of IQ on one of my Eevees and 7 IQ stars on my other Eevee

Hello so I just finished the main story and was trying to do the graduate the guild part but during the cutscene before the boss the game completely freezes do you know why this may be? I know that you have left for other passion projects but if you could help would this it would mean a lot thank you (I had a lot of fun with the new starter choices)

How did you get pass the game freezing at the graduation boss fight?

This mod has been pretty fun so far, however I've run into a bug where Magnezone isn't present after the Mespirit fight. The game will only give you so much time before it freezes preventing me from continuing at all. Kinda unfortunate, as this is not very far into the main story. Would like to see a patch made soon if possible, btw don't know if my starters are the problem, but i chose H. Zoroua and H. Sneasel if it helps.

I can't evolve Hisuian Sneasel.
